I've seen many arguments pro and con on coning,  and I think I'll just stay with a .490" ball and .015-.018" patching for my .50 T-C Hawken.  As long as I'm able to start the ball flush to the muzzle with my thumb, I see no reason to mess with things.

Your mileage, as always, ma vary.

My .36 caplock has an antique barrel, which was coned.  Easy to load and accurate as heck.

I guess it comes down to personal preference...

I would have to go along with captchee and oomcurt on this subject. If I shot conicals my opinioon may have ben different. I had nearly an identical experience with a used TCRenegade.. I believe they called it QLA quick loading accuracy. I found that with patched round ball anything over 60 grns. would stat to open up the group like a shot shell. But as was said to each his own.
