Title: Kibler Mountain Rifle
Post by: RobD on January 01, 2023, 08:11:03 PM
Well, I done did it again, bought another Kibler kit,  :Doh! -  an SMR this time in .45 bore, plain maple stock, 44" swamped bbl, Kibler flint lock.  Will post images when it arrives and then will chronicle the long build process.  I might just cut off the crescent butt stock and make it into a more of a mid 18th century farmer's gun.  I'll call Jim and Katherine up on Tuesday and see if he can leave the stock length full size and not machined for the crescent butt plate.

I was lookin' for a light caliber rifle and this will be it.  This is a new version of his SMR that has a shorter 44" swamped bbl (instead of 46") and changes to the lock as well.  I was much interested in his new Woodsrunner rifle, but that's a good half year off for ordering.  His Colonial can be had as a smooth rifle, but only up to .58 bore.  I think his proposed Trade smoothbore .62 caliber might finally get offered much later this year.  I'd be interested in that one, too!  Never can have enuf trad muzzleloaders!  :shake

Good on you rob.
I'm itching to build another smokepole too , but with spring approaching, a new ( used) boat that needs some TLC and a wife who wants smoked salmon I'll probably be too busy till next winter.
I'll just pretend I'm you as we follow along on your build.
Seems that kibler makes a fine kit, should be beautiful.

Emailed Jim and no go on getting the SMR with the butt end left full length so I could cut it square rather than crescent ... I'll leave it as is, no big deal.

When the Woodsrunner becomes available in June or July I'll order one out for a 2023/24 Winter rifle project.  That'll be sweet in .54 bore.

Ya know that ya can't have enuf trad muzzleloaders?  Did I say that before?   8)  ;D
