Title: Pics of a MVTC Ranger Bess
Post by: Thunder Bay on June 01, 2014, 07:40:21 AM
I have scoured the web looking for pictures of a MVTC Ranger Bess but find only the ones from MVTC's web site (old pics) I was just wondering if anyone had a Ranger Bess from them and if you have any pictures available? I am going to be purchasing on here shortly and would love to see your pictures.

I don't have the Ranger model but my MVTC East India is essentially the same gun, just longer.  The Ranger lacks a fore end cap and uses a wooden ram rod.  Here's some photos.

And a few more.  For those who may tell you that muskets aren't accurate, the photo of the target proves them wrong.  I was shooting on a very gusty windy day from 21 yards.  The two shots to the right of the main group were called flyers.  The wind swatted me just as I fired.  The main group is 5 rounds.  I used a thin flannel patch and could start the ball easily with my thumb.  The charge was 75 gr FFg.  All the shots went left of the center diamond I was aiming at.  Since I was shooting for group and not score I didn't try to bring them to the right.  I've since learned where to place my cheek to get center hits.

Have fun with your Ranger and tell us how it shoots.

Must take a while for PM's to filter through the system.  Nothing there yet.

I have to say that's a good looking Bess.  Accuracy seems to be a given, as well.

TB,

I don't know if it matters, but from a historical perspective, the cut-down Ranger Besses are very much fantasy guns.

If it doesn't, then enjoy!

Mario,
I value your opinion and have read your posts with much interest over the years. I understand about the "fantasy" of the cut down "Ranger Bess" and am not 100% sold on the Ranger Bess yet. I will look at other options when I have my funding complete. :)
