Right on salty . keep at it.
I'm getting ready for our club rendezvous next weekend so I won't be trying for another 10-14 days but I will take another poke at that shingle.
Planning on using my Fowler next time .
I know you're gonna get that bugger .

I do try to stay busy. . . . .

Am off tomorrow, so I'm going to try to get a bunch of stuff listed for sale: mostly extras I picked up from an estate sale (some ML and BPC barrels, modern scopes, and some misc).

About 6 years ago I decided (after ~45 years of dithering) that I wanted to make a copy of a horn carried by one of my great-greats.  From the looks of the horn and the original carving, it was F&I era.  When he got ahold of it post Rev War he did some carving of his own.

Tried finding a decent horn lately of a specific size/color/profile?  I've been checking weekly for 6 years, no luck on ebay or Powderhornsandmore, or in the FSoT posts on the various forums I follow.  I posted a WTB here, but I'm really missing the day when a note to Mr. Wilburn would have 5 of them shipped to my door.

Need to finish doing structural repairs/restoration on a cabinet for my incredibly-patient HSO.  Need to get back to finishing the re-stock of my hunting rifle HG, get the Leman converted to a decent honest ignition system instead of Reverend Forsyth's monstrosity, and get a couple of pistols made.

On the bright side, after almost 25 years of work, the end of my boucheron project is almost in sight!  I had to pick up some new skills (starting with burning charcoal, so I could set up and run a bloomery to refine bog iron), then figure out the cementation process so I could forge up shear steel.  After that, forging/grinding the blade, etc is almost a walk in the park.  And given that much lead time, I was even able to scrounge up the required boxwood.

FWIW, about 30+ years ago I acquired one of JP Gunstock's full stock percussion Leman's.  It was a very comfortable rifle to shoot and it was scary accurate.  Stupidly, like so many of my rifles, I sold that to a fellow back east.  I heard tell he converted it to flint and sold the percussion lock.  What a waste!!!

Funny, that--I've got a GRRW Leman (the half-stock) that I"m trying to find time to convert to flint.  Then I'll be selling the current lock (someone replaced the Kern lock with one of Ron Long's Hawken locks). . . .

You're absolutely right Salty. I'm glad I wasn't standing where that target was hanging. I tried it again today too. And I hit about an inch higher than you did. Now if I could only get my wife to clean my rifle for me, I'd say I had a  pretty good day.

I think I've seen that NWTG before,.... it looks like the one Ohio Joe bought from me some years ago at rendezvous.   :)  :hairy  :*:

I believe it is that one. And you had another that was shorter and only 54or 58 percussion as well at the time.. Marty snagged this one and I sat the fence on the other..
Ive got to source a new sear spring for this Lott lock yet, but I'll find it eventually!

Joe,.... do any of the sear springs in this link look familiar to what you have?

Can't say as I've done any historic trekking but I'd sure give that recipe a go.

Today I tried the 000 buckshot. It worked just as well as pure lead in the smoothbore pistol. Since the buck shot is harder, the balls deformed less when seated on the powder but I wouldn't say it was beneficial. The 5# box of Hornady buck was considerably cheaper than an equivalent amount of their lead, however. Don't know how well the harder material would do in a rifled bore.
