A 32" barrel smoothbore?

Jackie Brown has a .62 smoothbore for sale. It only has a 32" barrel. Anyone have any experience with a barrel this short in a smothbore?

Longhunter, when I visited Euroarms in Brescia, Italy.  I saw some Buffalo Hunt Carbines lying there to one side.  I asked them what they were.  They said they build it for Navy Arms years ago and it was a 12ga.  I thought the barrel was a bit short but ordered some.

I was so surprised by the accuracy.  At 50 yards it shoots clover leaves in the hands of a good shooter.  I must confess I don't have a lot of experience with smoothies.

If you want it for shot then it will be ok loaded with 2.3/4 drms of black powder to 1oz of shot ,this load will kill game at 35 yards..

my wife has a canoe gun with a 24 in 62 cal barrel , she can hold her own very well out to about 35 yards with it  so i dont feel you would have any problem with a 32 inch  barrel

Uhhh, think about most any double barrel shotgun.  How long are the barrels on them?

T/C had a 12 ga barrel for the New Englander, it was what, 26 - 28"?  I had one of those for a while and it was great to shoot - shot or ball.

I'd shoot shot out of it but I want a gun that will shoot a ball with reasonably good accuracy too.

I've never heard anything bad about Jackies guns. He makes his own barrels and said he's never had any complaints about their accuracy. He also makes a canoe gun with a 24" barrel.

I've got an old Mod 97 Winchester riot gun with an 18" barrel and it throws a slug plum center.. so I'm thinkin you shouldn't lose and accuracy with a shorter barrel...??

I have a Jackie Brown canoe gun in 28 bore that works well with shot. It's not half bad with a ball either but it's just too short and light for accurate ball shooting.  I stick to 1oz shot and 70gr 2f and it's my "go to" small game gun.

Jackie is a very nice fella and I personally like him.  If you do get one of his guns, just know that you might have to tinker with it a bit to get it right.  Sometimes his guns are good and some just so-so.  I bought one from him and had to work on the lock mortice to get the lock to set up against the barrel right.  As it was, powder placed in the pan would easily fall down inside the lock.  Bad juju.  Also the butt plate did not fit right and there were other inletting issues.

I was able to fix most of the issues.  Some I haven't got around to, yet.

If it's one he already built it might be better than one he rushes to build you.  That's been my experience. Plus, he does accept returns.

He was building it for a customer and the guy changed his mind on the barrel length so it was unfinished. He said he could have it done and ship it by the 17th...I hope that's not "rushing" him.

Don't get me wrong.  He does a good job, he does get rushed sometimes and doesn't pay attention to some details.  Nothing you can't fix, or send it back and let him fix it.  My Jackie Brown fowler is a fine gun.  Shoots well and balances well.  I just needed to do a little adjusting.  I have no plans to sell mine.  The walnut he used to make mine was very fancy and I got it for plain walnut price.

Like I said, I like Jackie.  He is a nice guy.

I'll second everything Butterchurn said.  I have a 28 bore canoe gun and a .62 cal Early Virginia rifle both made by Jackie and they are both good guns. Especially for the price.

Wouldn't trade it for anything .
