After seeing TMA forum member Hawken's lovely Watson full stock flint Hawken, late last year I commissioned gunmaker Tom Watson to build a half stock flintlock Hawken and now it's almost ready to ship to me for final staining and clear coating. Chambers-Siler Late Ketland lock, Davis double set triggers, Rice radius rifling 36" barrel in .50 bore, Chambers white lightning touch hole liner, Pecatonnica maple stock, iron furniture. More work still left, but essentially it's quite close to the "finish" line.

Rice radius rifling
Nice. I assume the barrel is not swamped?
That's gonna be a shooter!
-
straight big ol' barrel, not swamped.
-
If your gonna do it, do it right! Great selection of quality parts.
I like it!
-
If it winds up being as accurate as these you're gonna be one happy Dude! I like heavy barrels!

Congratulations to the both of you, some mighty fine looking rifles in those pictures.
Uncle Russ...

I think it will be a good, handsome rifle. And for what it's worth, I don't believe simple variations on a theme equals FANTASY.
-
"fantasy" because there are no known records of a hawken half stock flintlock.
-
tom's all done, ships out to me in 2 days, then i'll do the finishing ....

Yes sir, outside and ready for the day. The lines just flow. Outstanding! :hairy
-
That's a great looking rifle! I'll never understand, though, about some rifles being called "fantasy" rifles. As far as I know, the old makers didn't build "cookie cutter" guns.
-
the quite common "fantasy" monicker comes from the fact that so far no real half-stock hawken flinters have been discovered either in print or reality.
-
Those outside views really show off the rifle!

Plumb purty it be!!
