Gunbuilding classes?
« on: January 08, 2010, 09:46:24 PM »
Now that I am retired, I am interested in learning to make muzzleloaders.  I made an Early Virginia flintlock rifle from a TVM kit several years ago and it came out okay, but just okay.  In the process I gained enormous respect for gunmakers and now I want to learn in a school setting so that I can shorten the learning time down.

I know that there is a class in Indiana in October.  Are there any others around the country?

You may want to check Williamsburg.  I know people who have gone there for various classes pertaining to rifle building/stocking, but I don't know the details.
Regards, sse

There's the big one in Bowling Green Ky each year, Jim Chambers is doing one at his shop in NC with Jim Klein and Ken Gahagen, Troy Roope of Stonewall Creek Outfitters does a kit class in Virginia, Jim Klein is talking of doing some classes in Michigan.

The classes at Conner Prairie in Indiana are some of the best around.  I've attended classes for the last two years and will be there again this fall.  I highly recommend them.

Jim -

I live NW of Fort Collins, CO in the canyon of the Cache La Poudre River - Pasquinel's trapping area.

Thanks for the info about the Seattle area.  I may be travelling up there in the next year and several days with an experienced gunmaker would be well worth it.

Bob
