Your state rep for Texas is Spotted Bull
-
Thanks folks.
My name is David Shook for those that don't know. I live in Waxahachie, TX and hope that I can get to meet most if not all of the TMA Texas members at one time or another. This place is so dang big though I may never get to all of it. But I'll try.
I'll get some links and info posted for the various bp hunting laws and some of the many groups and clubs we have here in our great state. If ya know any or if I miss some, PLEASE post them here or let me know so that I can.
Again, thanks for the support and I will do my best to represent the TMA and make ya all proud.
-
Hi David,
Name here is Brett aka CallahanBlkPwdr.
I just joined the TMA and I live in Clyde, Texas.
That's about 10 miles east of Abilene.
Let me know if I can be of any help in this part of the state.
thanks and be safe
Brett
-
Dave,
I live near Big Spring. I get to Ft Worth area once in a while.
There are a couple of BP clubs around here. My schedule prevents my participation. I do want to do the "postal" shoot.
Rick
Knott, tx
-
We need to get all the Texas boys together and have a TMA shoot out here where I live maybe after the first of the year...
-
Roaring bull,
Copy that.
-
Roaring Bull, not very populated out here in Far West Texas so hard to organize any regular shoots. I have the use of 50 sq. miles of ranch land 20 miles N.W. of sireara Blanca Tx. If you think it possible to organize a rondy/shoot/ camp out of the Texas members shoot me a P.M. I did meet another TmA member at the Trappers convention in Ft.Stockton a coupleof years ago?
Bison Horn I think hes not fa from you? I,ve been pretty much under the weather the last 5 years or so, but things look some better now .
-
Well, several here are perty close.
Big spring , Clyde, etc. it is worth considering a get together, I am not a reenactor but like to shoot.
-
New hunter (& any others that may not have noticed) Roaring bull and Spotted bull = same guy. Just an FYI...
New name, but still all bull! (sorry - hadta say it!)
-
Yup...still da Bull!
Hey Texas Guys, anybody wanna Co-Represent the state with me? Most of ya'll get to more events than I do.
-
Dave! I'm outside FT Hood, Kempner TX. Is there any BP Shoots or Rendezvous that you know of in this area? If not I'd love to get something started.
-
We need to get all the Texas boys together and have a TMA shoot out here where I live maybe after the first of the year...
Hey Bull, I don't have much going on in December. Any chance that we might organize a get together that first weekend in December?
-
Spotted Bull; I'm just starting and have a DP Rocky Mountain Hawkins and a Flint Kentucky pistol, both In .54, have none of the other stuff. I would travel to learn, just say when.
-
Welcome Light Infantry. I'm with ya pd. David set something up and will prolly get a bunch to show up. And LI the SWRR is in Lampasass next Spring. BH
-
Lite infantry if you want to travel up to Aurora next month for my clubs rendezvous, I will help you out any way I am able, just let me know. And you can come and camp early.
-
Leave it to the Texas fellas....their dogs all hunt, in case ya haven't noticed!
And they will always give a helpin hand to get ya started!
Uncle Russ...
-
Guys I'm in touch with our director to see if our site is available that weekend. Sounds lime fun. LI, these guys can sure help ya out if you can hook up with them. I'm up to my next in gators with a meat hat on at the moment.
-
Thanks All! ridjrunr thanks, I will have to get back with ya. Bison Horn I'm about 15min from Lampasas, sounds like the SWRR in Lampasass next Spring is on. So what is SWRR? / Is there a list of things out there I need to start working on? Cloths, Hat and so on? I have a canvas pole tent I used in Alaska, but no poles. Where do you get your supplies? and do most of you try and dress to the period? or is it Blue Jeans, shirt and hat? also, for Lampasas in the spring, I bet I could get quite a few Soldiers to jump on that one.
-
SWRR= south west regional rendezvous

Well gentlemen, we have been given the OK to use the grounds the first weekend of December! All are invited. I am thinking that we keep it kinda informal but still pre-1840. If you know some folks that want to come and see what rendezvousing is about, invite them. I am going to invite the folks from our FCF ministry to come out too. We can have an archery shoot, black powder, hawk and knife. Or we can just sit around and relax before the Christmas season starts driving us all bonkers!
I will try to get some type of flyer together with directions and whatnot in the next few days.
Sound off it ya can make it...
-
Count me in possible +1. Might be a good road trip if that's the weekend before Christmas at Ft Parker. BH
-
I just looked it up, and it is the weekend before Ft Parker! I am hoping that I can make it out to Ft Parker for the weekend this year.
-
Yes, that is the weekend before Christmas at the Fort.
Count me in for sure Bull. I will also bring a couple of potential new TMA members with me if that's OK.
If you need steel targets, archery 3-D targets, cook and bottle washer, or anything at all, my resources are at your disposal.
-

Heck yeah! Bring them on! I'm hoping my FCF brothers will want to join up as well.
I might just tap into those resources too! Thanks brother!
-
Looks like you might have a good thing going. Don't let it die. You'll have more fun than you can imagine
-
Here is the flyer.
I have directions available by email.
-
ok guys I have a question for you Tejas Brothers.
Its supposed to be REALLY cold this coming weekend...do we wanna postpone this little shindig for a week and see how the weather works out?
My weather app shows "Feel Like" lows in the single digits for Saturday evening. and highs in the 20's. Now I know you folks from way up North are probably accustomed to such temperatures, but I generally try and stay indoors.
But if you guys wanna do it, we can.
-
The weekend of the 13th is Ft Parker. I have the weekend of the 20th open.
-
Steve let me check with the bosses and see if we are available that weekend.
-
Been looking forward to it, but! Between school and kids, and Christmas, looks like I might have to wait till the one, that's in Lampasas Texas. I think someone said it's in March? Does anyone have a POC for the Lampasas event? I'll help support them in getting things ready.
-
Check Talking Bears website under upcomming events. It is March 8-15.
-
Thanks!!!
-
well guys it looks like the weatherman is calling for ice and sleet and maybe snow next weekend...
-
I don't mind snow, but ice and sleet on the roads will keep me stuck at home.
-
Thats kinda what I was thinking PD.
-
Looks like it's going to be rough this weekend to head North. I'm booked til
after the New Year. BH
-
well guys, it looks like we are gonna have to call this one off. Hopefully we can get together pretty soon up here, after the first of the year.
-
agreed. Maybe late March or early April?
-
I'm going to shoot for March 21-23, 2014. That should be a good weekend.
-
The 30th Annual Southwestern Rendezvous is from March 8th-15 at Lampasas TX! Leave a week in-between and I bet the weather would be great and still be able to have an open fire.
-
Sounds great from here. Course I will be another year older then. lol BH
-
Just got word from the director that we have reserved the weekend of March 21-23,2014 for our Spring Fling. Hoping that this weekend will be a date that we can have long into the future. Lets start planning now guys!
I'm gonna need some help with this I imagine...ain't never planned some thing big like this.
-
I'll sure help as much as I know how. Bet the person who knows alot about rondy set up will chime in soon. BH

Does anyone know of anything going on in Texas, after Jan 2015? My kids had a great time in Lampasas, and we would like to go to more, but travel is an issue, between school and work.
-
The is a possibility of having another TMA event down at our campground near Waxahachie sometime around the first weekend in April 2015 but I still need to work out some details and get it all together.
-
Just found this site. Been MLing since '73. Moved to area W of Austin about 8 years ago from NE TX. Always looking for more ML shoots and shooters.
TC
-
Ok Texas guys, when do the fall events start happening and where?
-
TX MLRA Fall Match Brady, TX in Oct. Starts Wed or Thurs of 1st full weekend so Oct 1.
-
Hey I am in the middle of moving my locks, stocks, and barrels to League City TX, south and west of Houston. More boats than cowboys, and mo known ML group. I have found a close by range near Pearland TX for all kinds of shootin' n' noise makin'. At least it is open and accepting of new members not like some other clubs in the area. I expect the overall move to be a done deal after my house in the Vampire State gets sold. So I will bid an adieu to NY State as soon as is possible......"Doc"
-
Welcome to Texas! Distance is short here I travel 100 mi to shoot with my club once a month. Don't know of any clubs in Houston but there are some out towards New Branfels way. BH
-
Congrats Doc! I know you've been lookin forward to this!
-
Ok Texas guys, when do the fall events start happening and where?
Bull,
Here is a link to the rendezvous I know about in my neck of the woods.
Events and Rendezvous (http://traditionalmuzzleloader.com/index.php/events-and-rendezvous)
Does anyone know when the next rendezvous at Aurora is scheduled?
-

Thanks Dan.
-
Thanks guys. Gotta get my calendar out now
-
Just checked, Oct. 17-18, no flyer available yet.
Fyi, I am no long a paid member at Aurora as my family and I have moved to the Wichita KS area.
However, if I get a flyer to there rendezvous,I will post.
-
I hope you and yours are doing well in Kansas. You will be missed around here.
-
Thank you Steve, long story short,I took a job transfer instead of risking layoff. Same parent company, different division. Love it here so far,so we hope the job lasts alot longer.
-
Christmas at old Fort Parker week of Dec 10-13. It was A good rondy last year with Firewalker as new Booshway. Seemed like all the rondy events went well. Not much prize blanket though. Will go again this year. Sure am starting to fill my calander. BH
-
BH we are gonna try to get several of our guys that don't normally go to rendezvous outside of our organization to Ft Parker this year.
-
Voyageur check out the buckskiinning.org site and you can find a link to Texas clubs.BH

-
BH I've been on there Facebook page. I'll try to get their flyer posted if I can.
-
Going to my first Rendevouz in Oct. They are going out of their way to allow new folks who aren't fully equipped to participate and see what it's like. Hope the SWRR in llano doesn't conflict w TMLRA spring matches in a Brady again. Hurts attendance for both. If thee is a conflict there, I'll have to go to Brady.
I also have the Ft Parker shoots on my calendar.
TC
-
Anybody that can tell me where the Aurora event will be held?
It will be at the Aurora Black Powder Club in Aurora, TX. Entrance is on Brammer Dr. about .25 mi. west of intersection with FM 4651. Access FM 4651 from southbound service road on U.S. 287.
-
awesome, thanks dmills!
-
SWRR in Henderson, TX from Talking Bear site
-
on the calendar!
-
Well I missed Comanche Peak rendezvous this weekend but went to our local ministry event and had a good time. Our numbers are way down though. Gonna miss the Aurora Event this coming weekend as well because I couldn't get anyone to switch out on-call at work with me. Does anyone plan on going to the Texas Association of Buckskinners or Fritztown Free Trappers event the following weekend? I was thinking I may try and make it out to one of those.
-
Right now I'm planning on being at the TAB. BH
-
I might go solo to that one. Lawman is busy all month.
-
Our youngest son came home from college for a visit this weekend. I didn't get to camp, but I did walk in and visit a voo for a while Saturday morning. There were maybe 10 camps? Much smaller than in the past.
I have noticed a direct correlation; the clubs that don't advertise their events are getting smaller and smaller. I'm not sure if the lack of advertisement is just an oversight or a deliberate action to maintain a small group.
I do attend a few " by invitation only" rendezvous. These events are held on private property and the property owner limits liability risks by inviting only people they know won't use the legal system to steal. However, these events usually have 30 or more camps because there is communication to let folks know when the event will be held.
My point is: If you want to keep your event alive you have to bring in new members.
If you are neglecting to advertise your events the perceived message is "you ain't welcome". If that isn't the intended message then you need to get your fliers distributed early and often. Communication with other clubs and events in your area doesn't hurt either.
-
Great post Steve. I'm seeing the same thing at paper and silhouette matches.
Tom Compton
-
Good words PD.
-
Steve,
:shake [/color]
-
"If you are neglecting to advertise your events the perceived message is "you ain't welcome"".............
It don't get no plainer than this.
I hope the TMA can be of some help in getting this accomplished for our many small groups.
The use of your own forum right here can be a lot of help, but there's just nothing that beats the old hand-out Flyer, especially when it's handed from person to person, that's what it takes to make a guy feel really welcome.
Steve, PD, and all you guys in that "Texas Group", we are all just downright proud of the whole bunch of ya!

I plan to set up on Thursday as well.
The weather forecast looks like some rain during the weekend but nothing that will freeze or ice over.
After the shoot this Sunday, we could use some help loading and hauling the firewood we cut and split from down range up to the camp.
-
Thanks for info on TAB Winter rondy, may walk in Sat. Already sent in my fees for the Southwest. Steve, see you Sunday! BH
-
Good, the new postal match season starts Sunday.

-
Cloudcroft, NM is one of my favorite places on Earth!
-
Yes, it is beautiful. Been there a couple of times hunting for feral hogs. No luck but it was nice to get out in the woods.
-
Comanche Peak Muzzleloaders are hosting a Spring rendezvous April 8-10, 2016. Looks like its a new venue, as they have lost the lease to the site they had for like 20+ years.

Ranger Springs is usually in November, before Thanksgiving. I'll get the dates and flyer posted when I have them.
-
Bull, you made a great point about how spread out this place is. Wouldn’t it be great if everybody included some location info. If not a specific town or county something like “piney woods, metroplex or hill country”.
FYI the TMLRA has a group on FB and shoots in March, June and October located in Brady, TX.

Yeah but I've been banned from the TMA, so I can't comment. But I am in Waxahachie.
Bull, if you've been "BANNED" from the TMA, why on earth did you create a fictitious name, come back, and start posting?
What's up with that?
Uncle Russ...
