Title: My New Squirrel Rifle
Post by: Swamp on March 19, 2012, 10:19:48 PM
Here is my new squirrel rifle that Pathfinder built for me. It's a .32 cal Southern Mtn Rifle. It sports a curly ash stock that is just awesome. A small Siler lock, double set triggers, and a banana patch box that was ingraved by our own Captchee.

All I can say is that I'm very happy with my new rifle. I will try to get out this weekend to shoot it, and get her sighted in.

Thanks a bunch Pathfinder, I love this Baby!  :shake

ASH! The OTHER stock wood. I've got an incredible curly ash blank that's waiting to get an A-wt .40. x 46" Rice and a Chambers small Queen Anne.

I purely love seeing guns with ash stocks. I'm really jealous.  :toast

She did turn out pretty good. Now I need ta find sumptin else ta hold the barn door shut! Captche's engraving on the patch box read's" Swamp. TMA president 2011" It's the best part of the gun!

Fred Miller had a couple of AWSOME curly Ash blank's,so there'll be a couple more soon!

Nice rifle gun there Pres...too bad this year is a smooth bore year at TRR..,

Swamp toted that new child all day Saturday at the Kalamazoo show. IN THE CASE.  We finally asked if he was ashamed of it or what and got him to take the cover off. It is a beauty, and more striking because of that ash stock. She surely comes to shoulder and eye well. Swamp will have no excuses now for missing.  Nicely done Path.

Boy Swamp, ya sure got a good'n there. WOW! Probably shouldn't bring it to the ONWR, it might get lost in the bush's or something! An besides, Hank will probably slobber his self to death.
Hey Path; i've not done any ash yet, how is it to work and stain? Just curious! Buzzard

It's really a nice wood to work with. I've done @ 17 guns in Ash,and 3 were Lancaster styles with a lot of carving. Carving is a pain in the butt! Flat cut isn't too bad, quarter sawn is a lot prettier, but almost impossable to carve decently, always running into open grain. I use Ashphaltum as a stain. Road tar dissolved in mineral spirit's. My Grandfather was a cabinet maker/clock maker from Poland and we made EVERTHING at that time. You could alway's tell when he made some new brushes, the dog's had bald spot's all over!! :Doh!

Thanks everyone! Pathfinder did one heck of a job on this one! Yes, I feel very lucky to have this rifle. I'm going to shoot it this weekend, and get her sighted in. I will report back with the results.

I will be toting this one around everywhere I go!  :hairy
