General Interest / Re: Dealing with sunny days and sight glare

Good on ya. Are you the same guy who told me about two days ago, that you can't shoot? Now you know why I said I didn't believe it for a minute.

Well I am back from the shoot and I am happy to report I took 1st place in rifle and 1st over all in aggregate.  :applaud
hit 14 of 17 targets . not bad for me.
My only complaint is that my friend Archie wasn't there,  he usually aces the course so I have some improvement to do but I am happy.
it was overcast most of the shoot with short periods of sun and rain. No glare whatsoever, I could bring ginger to shoulder and boom good sight picture. no heat waves, no reflection off the flat.  awesome.
I'm very pleased so far, the paint stayed on for the cleaning too, didn't rub off.  it's only a very light dusting of black.
So the heavy rains are starting again but I'll head to the range this w/e for some fun and report back.. hoping for full sun to see how that is.

I appreciate all the responses. same stuff all the guys in the club say, way too much boom.
My next session with the ol .62 I will definitely try a lesser charge.  not sure when that will be tho as I am loving my kibler at the moment.
I should take her to the range the next time out and give her another go.

I would check with RobD, he is very knowledgeable about archery and its equipment.  And, without photos it never happened!

I gave this thread some more thought - but I was stopped before any damage could be done - and a couple of things deserve mentioning-again.  100 grains of powder in a 20 ga is way more than needed; too much actually.  My smoothbore has a rear sight and I don't think I would have kept it otherwise.  It helps with both ball and shot.

Stock shape can make a major difference, but getting the face up a bit does the same thing.  I shoot ball, prb and bare, with 60 grains of 3F going up to 70-75 for deer.  But as I no longer hunt, 60 grains it is.  The 20 ga isn't much of a kicker so that alone tells you something is not right.

Stupid machine.

Can I shorten it to 66 or 68 inches at this point? It's tillered but not finished.

My hope is that this will remove some of the curve and perhaps raise the draw weight.

Thanks

Traditional Archery / Board bow
« Last post by Ironhand on Today at 08:55:35 AM »
Hi guys,  I decided to try making a board bow.  It went well and I have it tillered but I have a couple of problems. It's a 70 inch Red Oak stave,40lb @28 inches.

The first problem is that it has has developed a "C" shape as I worked it.
The second problem is that it's longer and lighter than I wanted.

My question is, can I shorten it p
