I would check with RobD, he is very knowledgeable about archery and its equipment.  And, without photos it never happened!

I gave this thread some more thought - but I was stopped before any damage could be done - and a couple of things deserve mentioning-again.  100 grains of powder in a 20 ga is way more than needed; too much actually.  My smoothbore has a rear sight and I don't think I would have kept it otherwise.  It helps with both ball and shot.

Stock shape can make a major difference, but getting the face up a bit does the same thing.  I shoot ball, prb and bare, with 60 grains of 3F going up to 70-75 for deer.  But as I no longer hunt, 60 grains it is.  The 20 ga isn't much of a kicker so that alone tells you something is not right.

Stupid machine.

Can I shorten it to 66 or 68 inches at this point? It's tillered but not finished.

My hope is that this will remove some of the curve and perhaps raise the draw weight.

Thanks

Hi guys,  I decided to try making a board bow.  It went well and I have it tillered but I have a couple of problems. It's a 70 inch Red Oak stave,40lb @28 inches.

The first problem is that it has has developed a "C" shape as I worked it.
The second problem is that it's longer and lighter than I wanted.

My question is, can I shorten it p

Seems like that approach would help get equal height equal light
As the saying goes .
Another thing I did to reduce glare that I read about is cutting a horizontal line across the face of the front sight , halfway from the flat to the tip with a file
Can't say really it helped , supposed to scatter the reflection I believe
I think this black paint will do the trick.
 We shall see.

Is Archie bigger than you. Be careful. 🤕  Here is the statement about the blue and yellow paint. What do you think? [ Invalid Attachment ]
