Title: T/C Renegade project
Post by: shootrj2003 on November 05, 2010, 11:41:48 AM
I've had this with two barrels [.54-,.50]for many years and the tough as nails finish has still got dinged up so I stripped it and started a refinish but while I'm at it I decided to" traditionalize" it,you know make it more like something you'd see "back then",not that a renegade doesn't look good but I just want to personalize it and make it a bit more me and less factory I've been itchin to for years .How many others have done this and if so pictures? when I'm done I'll show her off.eventually I'm thinkin'of a bit longer barrel with patched ball rifling ,I have a 56 caliber ball mold I could make use of.

Welcome to TMA ! If you search in the tutorials you'll see some threads about doing such things. I am nearing the end of a cva kit that will be customized a bit myself. Its been a couple year project  with alot of interuptions, buut its gettin there ! I think the one thread is called of a lowly bobcat or sumthing like that.

thanks for the reply-I did a CVA I found as a kit at a yard sale still in the styrofoam packing $35.00,it had the 1-66 rifling and was a real good shooter, good luck I've got 5coats of tung oil on my Renegade and it's settin up by the stove now but i'm still looking for Ideas right now,I'mholed up with healing shoulder surgery and I'm hoping to be able by muzzle season in Dec but a deer right now this years questionable but I can rub finish with my good arm!

What I did to my old Renegade.

Put a Douglas Premium Barrel on it, 36" x .54 cal

Installed a Hawken Shop Hawken Trigger Guard.

Installed a steel nosecap.

Installed a long bar Hawken rear sight and a iron blade front sight.

Fashioned a Hawken style butt plate.

Except for the engraved T/C lock, it sure didn't look much like a Renegade no more.

Wonder why I ever sold it, it was an X-ring shooting gun, if I did my part.
