Title: Does size matter.
Post by: attheedgeoftheworld on June 12, 2008, 06:24:05 AM
I have been looking at all the wonderful knives we have here on the board and other places and I wonder,  how may knives did people long ago carry/ use?  And did the really carry/ use what I call man jewelery. When does a blade lose it usefulness as an everyday knife and become something that never sees the light of day.
How many blades to you carry at one time?

Guys- Please understand I love me some knife porn that is for sure and when my newest toy is completed I will be posting it that's for sure.

Raymond, one good knife is all you need. I carry one on my belt, one in my bag, one in my hat, one in my sock, one around my neck, and a couple in places i don't tell. Just in case!

Well - different knives for different purposes . . . but when at rondy, I carry a folder on person and camp knife on belt.  Plus a throwing knife when needed. Also a smaller 'pen' knife if using quills vice nibs for ink work.

When shooting add a small knife around the neck for digging out caps and flicking stuff.

When hunting add a very sharp skinning knife in the hunt bag and fairly good size blade on hip for any wood work or other impediments.

However, back in the day, I'd say the impediment knife was carried more often than not.

(as I sit here typing I have pen knife, blade on money clip, and that folder from above . . . okay - I'm an addict . . .)

I dont know about back in the day.
I carry a knife that clips to my pocket at all times.
For hunting and field dressing i'm not a fan of a big knife.
I carry this one

Skinner
Blade-2.75"
Overall- 5.75"
Handle-Bubinga w/brass pins
Blade Material-5/8" wire cable (1095)

I keep a Bowie / survival style knife in my pack, just in case (I leave that pack on the ground by the tree i'm hunting out of in case I fall out, cant climb back up to get it with broke legs or back)

I have 3 butckering knives for finishing the meat chores.

One on my belt, a folder in my pocket and one on the strap of my bag. Most of the time the only one that gets used is the one on my belt.

Always one knife ... simple folder like a sodbuster or a trapper . Not a big fan of huge knives ... I feel nakid without one.
