Modified "dry patch"
« on: November 04, 2019, 12:58:40 PM »
I have been placing. 32 and .50 precut patches in an empty round nr. 11 precision cap tin
And then a spray from the Ballistol can (without water mix). They soak up the oil and
You don't have to let water evaporate as with premixed. Easy on spray and not too oily.
Seems to work fine.

been there, done that quite a bit.  first with various moose milk ratios, then straight ballistol juice.  the straight worked the best for me, too, IMHO.

straight rendered bear tallow has been The Best of all for me (thanx ed!), but it's kinda oily wet (which is a good thing) and i like more of a "dry" grease for both roll up patch strips in the shooting bag and balls in boards.  i never use precut patches ('cept those already loaded in ball boards).

prior to going strictly PPB for BPCR/TR, i did a lotta testing with gato feo #1 as a "dry" grease patch lube, and that's been my ultimate choice for the last coupla years.

Hmmm, "ugly cat".  Interesting name for a patch lube.

Wondering, has Balistol done anything about the aroma of the product?

it's actually an olde tyme 19th century lube for conicals, a mixture of sheep tallow, canning wax, beeswax.

nope, still has that, um, wonderful aroma.  :)

If it works for you, that's the way to go... For a long time I use to lube up patches and carry them in my empty #11 Cap Tins... I got away from that, and now I just load (dry patched ball boards) for shooting at the Range and for competition and just use spit, but I do keep a #11 cap tin with patch lube in it for hunting loads, and for when I run out'a spit at the Rendezvous competitions in July... A feller can dry up pretty quick in 90+ degree weather...  :bl th up
