Title: Scotish thistle
Post by: ridjrunr on October 02, 2016, 05:36:11 PM
Somewhere on the net, I saw an image of a Scotish Thistle but it had a chicken encorporated into it as well. Anyone know what I am trying to describe?

I know this sounded pretty odd but this is what it was all about. My friend I camped with last weekend had this axe head with a cartouche, couldnt quite make it out but this came to mind

Chicken? In the first pictute, I can't see anything that looks like a Chicken, or Scottish Thistle.  :?

Now that last picture is a real classic.
Seit (since) 1781....I have no clue as to when this particular Axe was made, perhaps you do, but the Company has been in business a really long time, so I'm thinking this particular Axe should be very much sought after by those who are into such things.

There should be no doubt about this being a real Gem....age often counts a whole bunch when you're looking at condition, and this one looks to rate pretty high to me.

I know you've got a whole bunch of Axes yourself, seems you've been at this for sometime now.
What kind of 'value', other than historical, would you place on a Axe like this?
Any chance you may end up with old piece of history?

Uncle Russ...

Haha, uncle Russ! Chicken, frog the very faint cartouche on the head made me think of that image I just hadnt seen it in a while.
Last weekend I was lucky enough to camp with some old friends and some new friends at a rendezvous. A friend I met through another camp friend just last week brought out this axe. Wondered if I knew anything about it.
He got it at a farm auction a while back in Kansas. What a gem ,I think he intends to mount a straight handle on it to be more period as he is an AMM member and thats his camp axe!
Couldnt even guess at a $ value on something like this. Just too many variables.
