Leather finishing

How do you get a nice finished edge on leather projects.I made a knife sheath with a welt and after trimming the edges have a sharp stacked look.Should they be lightly pounded flat with a hammer?

you can try that if you like, burnish the edge will work nicely, if you do not have a burnishing tool or wheel, chamfer the outside edges at a slight angle, them get the edge wet, and you can use a dry lag bone thats been sanded from a chicken or deer or? and while the dge is damp, rub the snot out of it, quickly, this will compact the leather fibers and give it a nide uniform look, assuming that you trimmed all 3 layers of leather so their even.

Sounds like you need to sand it smooth first - a belt sander works or do it by hand with a block- 80 grit followed by 220 - then edge trim/chamfer and burnish as Beaverman suggested.........for edge burnishing you can rub a bit of beeswax on it after using water and drying then rub hard again.....

JIm's fast AND right again!!!!! I like using a leg bone also,cheaper and eisier to replace when missplaced
