Well my kibler arrived today and I of course I sit here at work argh.
Anyway, I've been thinking about having a black lock on this cherry stock.
Don't want paint or powder coat, something more traditional.
Read some info on heat beeswax and linseed oil.
Wondering if any of y'all have tried such a thing or if there are betters ways to get a deep black. As for the brass, I'm Assuming I'll just use brass black.

Have not used this, I'm going to French gray the steel on mine, expect to see some unboxing pics, still sitting here with Carly Simon playing in my head!

Here's the lock. I have seen some locks that look stove pipe black. That's what I'm looking for. Think iron I guess.

Heres the whole shooting iron. The cherry stock is really nice.
Won't start on it for a couple more days. Tomorrow night if I'm lucky, I may get a few swipes with a file in.

FWIW, I found that cold blue will turn most brass black in a New York Minute - provided, any protective clear lacquer coating is removed prior to application.

Well I took an hour before work today to test fit everything.
Wow , just fantastic. Snaps together , pins popped right in.
Fantastic spark from the frizzen.
I'm thinking now that I may just polish/ clean everything and leave it be, set aside a few coats of tru oil.

Kees, welcome to my world, I had to sell 3 to buy mine, a Trade Gun Kit, a TC Patriot, and a 58 Cabelas Hawken, no big deal, they were for sale anyway, just luck I was able to move them all in time for the 10 percent off in July from Kibler, saved 130 bux on the kit and lock!, basically that paid for the shipping and handling.

Rust blue the lock, that should get you pretty close to the color you want.

I've used LMF browning solution to blue several barrels, and got a very pleasant, almost black color.

I went ahead an ordered some JAX blackener.
Thinking bbl, lock and trigger= black.
Everything else may stay brass ?
Why do we agonize over such things argh.

Kees, never give up hope! :laffing About a year ago I accompanied a relative to court on an estate matter. He'd inherited some land from one of what he described of as "one of the old guys" in the family. He's 91 years old!
