Title: Liquid Silver Plate
Post by: Jamesk58 on February 26, 2016, 10:41:11 PM
I have a Pietta 1851 Navy Civilian with silver plate on back strap and trigger guard but the silver has worn thin on the back strap.

Have seen Medallions liquid silver plate with mixed reviews.  Perhaps some of the negative reviews were because the people didn't prep the surface correctly.

Anyway, would like to know if anyone has good experience/advice on replacing worn silver plate.

Thanks

I have used it on brass many times. It looks great, works well but it is not very durable. It may do better if you use multiple layers.

IMHO I would just have the straps nickel plated

Why not just let it develop a patina? The silver always wears on these revolvers and the blued parts will become wear silvered with use. It's normal and gives the piece a used but cared for appearance. Dan

it's not difficult to plate that part, most jewelers can do it.   You can to, kits are avail. to silver plate brass, fishermen use it on lures.  Friend does it on spinner blades....
