Title: Length of pull and point of balance
Post by: Smokey on June 04, 2022, 08:58:14 AM
How does length of pull effect the balance point?
Can a shorter length of pull the balance point back toward the shooter?

.

For every action, there is an equal & opposite reaction.

Reducing weight from one end of a lever (which is essentially what a gun is in recoil) shifts the same % of mass towards the other end of the lever.

Ergo, shortening the butt will make the muzzle feel slightly heavier - IOW the balance point will move forward, away from the shooter.

Does that mean one would have to shorten the barrel to move the point of balance closer to the shooter?

Yes.  Of course you can bore a hole in the stock butt to fill with lead or bore and re rifle the barrel to a larger caliber.

Or, turn the front portion of the barrel to make a half round.

Is it a Target Rifle?

Some offhand shooters prefer a front heavy rifle that can hang closer on the target center at point of aim as they pull the trigger... However, this takes a lot of practice - but through that practice you are building your stamina to hold on target.  :shake
