@Nessmuk @Ohio Joe
Anything on the 2023 Postal Shoots. I'm not rushing or pushing, just curious as 2023 is just around the corner.
A side question to Nessmuk. I think I remember you from a ML forum of many years ago we were both on. I can't remember which one, but I think the two I was thinking of have both long since ceased to exist.
Thanks,
cwgrizz

As far as I know - and last I heard, Nessmuk will be running the 2023 Postal Matches. :shake
-
I've already shot my targets for next yr.
Hopefully I'll be able to make time for the PS.
Joined my local BP club so that should help.

Well, Color me embarassed . My 3 paragraph reply to CWGRIZZ didn't post back on the 30th!
Yes, I'm the fool who volunteered to run the 2023 Postal Match. Traditionally, we have the Matches from April to October, no change this year.
I'm going to have two different match styles and you can compete in one or both. It's entirely up to you.
#1 Traditional Targets. the same as we've always used
#2 Rondy Targets These will still be printed on standard 8.5x11" paper. but the targets will vary from month to month. I will publish the following month's target 2 or 3 days before the end of the month. I may vary the shooting distance and shooting stance for these targets from month to month, also. Don't worry!! There won't be anything too outrageous.
I do guarantee you won't be bored if you shoot Rondy. More later as I perfect my posting skills. feel free to PM me with suggestions , complaints or rude comments.
-
Do not be embarrassed - stuff happens. And do not consider yourself a fool for offering to run the shoots this year. I for one am grateful that you are doing it! :toast
I'm looking forward to what your Rondy targets are going to be, and how we are to shoot them. Which reminds me, I have a new stock for the Hodgepodge rifle which I have to fit to it. If I am going to be shooting it I had better get with the program and get that done!
Thank you again for taking this on! :bow

I'm looking forward to it!

"Rondy Targets"
Great idea!!! :toast
-
Hey Nessmuk, thanks for taking the helm. For those of us who don't know the lingo, what is a "rondy" target? All those bullseyes that we have been shooting ag for the past few years are round, or roundish, or is that perhaps rondy?
-
What are "Rondy" targets? Think Rendezvous! Think Candles and Strings and Gongs! Think Sgt. York! Think X's and O''s. Anything EXCEPT the center of bullseye.
-
Well, that's good to know. Hitting the center of a bullseye is pretty hard to do for all of us. Sounds like fun. Mike Fink was a tough one last year, so I'm dreading the candle and string. Let 'er rip!
-
Maybe even some of those chickens, pigs, rams Etc. that Joe would have us shoot? I just paid my annual dues for the Athens Fish & Game Club so I will be able to use the range again this year with my postal targets. Are we going to be scanning & emailing them again like Rob had us do? Or stick them in an envelope and send them via USPS?

took some time off. And now I've forgotten how to access the monthly postal matches. ( have patience with me I don't do well with the computer )
-
Lynn, if it's any consolation to you, I'm probably more computer illiterate than you are. Sometimes I become so frustrated that I want to quit. But I so enjoy shooting the postal matches and hearing what these gun builders and intelligent people have to say about their black powder experiences. So I'll keep plugging away as long as they bare with me. I can't help you with the postal shoot information, but I'm sure someone will be along shortly to help you. Sometimes I have to get my wife to help me . You can teach an old dog new tricks but sometimes it's just a little hard to remember those tricks.
-
Keep your Powder dry, Gentlemen, (I use the term loosely). I will have all the Postal Shoots info up on the board the first week of February. It will be more friendly to the computer challenged.
-
That's what I'm talking about. Hey Lynn, I told you somebody would be along shortly. I like the comment about keeping your powder dry. But speaking from experience, I would like to add to always remember to put the powder in first. Then work on keeping it dry.

Nessmuk seez; ............"Yes, I'm the fool who volunteered to run the 2023 Postal Match. Traditionally, we have the Matches from April to October, no change this year."
Well, this is just a personal observation so take it for what it's worth.....
I "Personally" think the TMA could use a whole big truckload of "Fools" much like this guy Nessmuk!
After all, he is one of those guys who will take the Bull by the Horn and get the job done.
He's one of those everyday folks who say there's a job to be done, and I will take it on.
He ain't afraid to get his hands dirty, put in a little extra time, or afraid he's going to hurt someone else's feelings because it didn't happen the way they wanted it to...the way they would've, could've, should've ....you get the message!
Personally, I like all my "Fools" to be just like this guy Nessmuk, and I think you will too.
He's got this! Turn him loose, let him run, and you and I run with him!
Flintlock and Caplock Shooters possess one undeniable trait. They are a part of a Brotherhood that numbers in the thousands. They are a part of a Team, a team that works together and plays together, for the future of our sport. Nothing could be better, IMHO.
Thanks for taking the time to read this. It is important that we realize these things.
Uncle Russ...
-
Uncle Russ said it all. But I would like to say this. I know Nessmuk will do a fine job. I think he has two very large pairs of shoes to fill . I've shot under two great NMDs. That would be Ohio Joe and Biliff. All the rest were great and very much appreciated. I corresponded with Joe and Bill quite a bit and hope to do likewise with Nessmuk. Go get em Nussmuk.
I'm almost sure Biliff did it for 4 or 5 years, but Joe ,you will have to tell me how many years you were NMD.
-
Thanks for the kind words, Tom. :shake
You know, I really don't know for sure how long I did the NMD duties, but it was my pleasure to do it. I know that many members (like yourself) looked (and look) forward to them, so I always tried to make them interesting (as have the other NMD's).
I do look forward to Nessmuk's shooting program. I like his take on the kind of targets that will be used. After all, who doesn't like a good Novelty target! With this said, I can't say for certain I'll be able to take part in the Matches, as I don't know what targets will be used? (my printer gave up years ago and I have no plans to replace it). However, if it's one of our TMA target that I might still have a copy of, I'm in... :bl th up
Anyway, I hope we can all support Nessmuk's efforts as best we can. :toast
-
NMD? Forgive me, but what is that?
~Kees~
-
NATIONAL MATCH DIRECTOR Without them we probably we would not have a postal match.
-
Billif, now theres a blast from the past!
-
Ah, I see. No guarantee that it will be fixed in my memory banks when next encountered, though! ::)

Mark I know you're not posting any April results until the end of the month. But could you tell us if anyone has even attempted it yet ?
-
No one has posted a Target yet. however, several have printed targets.
-
Welllllll,
I'm on my way to rendezvous in Montana this weekend.
When I get back I promise I will mow the lawn.
Kevin
-
This old boy is planning on it in the near future (this month), but have been waiting for the wind to die down to less than 25mph so I can adjust sights on two rifles for this fun. A new flinter that I have been working on the lock, but never shot and my old standby caplock. Both are Lyman GPR,
Thanks for supplying the opportunity for some fun.

23 days to go in April and I'm hoping everybody's weather improves (mine included).!! Positive Thoughts, gentlemen, Rascals, Scalawags, etc al.
-
Nessmuk, we're getting closer to the mud stage of this weather here, so there's always hope! Snow is still melting... :shake
-
am I supposed to post my target here or just submit to the email listed ( which I did)
thank you kevin
-
I got it, Kevin!!
-
Excellent, thank you.
How's the participation been so far ?
Kevin
-
6 received so far but I'm expecting several more. Fingers crossed!!
:hairy

I tried today, I really did. Forgot to grab a backer from home, but I found a piece of cardboard in the trash which I thought would do. I found out (sadly) that not all cardboard is the same. While the holes in the cardboard were nice and round, those in the target (25 yard) were badly ripped out. Also, while halfway through my shooting, the guy who was mowing stopped for a gab session. After he left I had lost track of how many shots I had taken and when I retrieved the target it had 6 holes, all ripped out. So, it looks like I'll be back out next week for another try!

If cwgrizz and Winter Hawk are finished shooting . . . let's eat grandma. :laffing

Well, I got one target done today. Shooting did not start out well so i never got to the rendezvous target. Hopefully I'll get to it tomorrow. When I started shooting the target today, my shots were going all over the place. Why? I know I hadn't shot in a while; I had been sick for the past 4 weeks and really didn't have my strength back, but that shouldn't have affected things that bad. Anyway, I happened to notice that the front sight was sliding back and forth without much effort. I guess that is really not a good thing. Ha! Ok, now it's time to sight in the rifle again and stake that front blade down. Finally got it all done and then tried a target again. Not great, but much better. I will get that one sent in and hopefully tomorrow I won't be so tired and ready to shoot the rendezvous target.
Have fun and shoot straight.........................Oh and check to make sure your sights are fixed in position. :Doh!
