BACO and black powder
« on: October 15, 2021, 08:47:12 PM »
Just got an email from Buffalo Arms ...

"We will have Swiss and Schuetzen Black Powder in stock soon.
Please be patient.
208 263-6953"

That's a good sign, indeed.  Wonder what the price tag will be and if the shipping/hazmat costs will have escalated, too.  ::)  :o

Certainly some good news for sure.

I expect we'll be looking at higher prices no matter who picks up where Goex quit... After all, there's not a whole lot of competition out there... Still, good news that I'm sure many of us have been worrying about.  :shake

I see on their website Swiss ( out of stock) was 27$ + .
Probably double that on hazmat shipping.
Rob, I got my chemicals from skylighter and I'll be damned it makes BP.   it would be cheaper to get setup to mill powder my friend.

I've been leaning hard in that direction, too, Kevin.  Sounds like you have a process that's working for you - please share with us all!

Wellll, I bought a small amount of potassium nitrate 1# and sulfur 1#.  From skylighter.com then I made my own red fir charcoal.
I tried to do it with stump remover and garden sulfur.  Don't waste your money.
Skylighter has a black powder kit but I wasn't ready to spend 80$+ yet so .
Used a ball mill from harbor frieght 6# version.
Lead 54 cal balls as media and then weighed out the 3 ingredients per skylighter instructions online.
Thru all that in the ball mill and 6 hrs later viola , black magic.
Still need to alcohol it and grate it over a strainer but the mill dust seems impressive.
There are lotsa videos on line.
 Really easy I thought .
