Title: March 13/14, 2019 Winter Blizzard
Post by: Ohio Joe on March 14, 2019, 07:10:21 AM
Check this out. This is at the corner of 2nd st. and Wagon Wheel Rd in Crawford, Nebraska (where I live)... This has to be close to 36 inches of snow - though I'm sure the wind contributed to that mass of snow. No idea how they'll ever get a plow down that street, and with the City Park basically at flood stage - I have no idea where they'll relocated this snow after removal.

I actually have higher drifts then this where I live (other side of town) up on the hill two blocks from our school. I don't think my wife and I are going anywhere for quite a'while.

This storm's a "doozy" alright,.... not a whole lot of snow here, though it's hard to tell how much we've actually had, with 70 MPH wind gusts blowin' the stuff around.  :o

Stay warm,... and stay safe!  :hairy

Rondo, you and Beth also take care down there.

I've got 3 to 5 feet (maybe 6 feet) in our alley in different areas,,, and naturally we parked out back... I'd hate to think how much snow our vehicles would be under especially after the snow plow runs (if it can even cut through this stuff) if we'd a parked out front. Crawford doesn't have the greatest snow removal equipment... Cindy and I are riding this out okay however, as is the kids and grand kids. Everybody's warm and safe!  :hairy

You guys stay safe!
This last one was indeed a "doozy" and will take weeks to clear if we don't get warmer weather real soon.
We got hit twice with blizzard type weather in just over a month.....I'd get a path shoveled, and 30 / 40 mph winds with fresh snow would cover it up as soon as I got it cleared...or, later that same day.

I learned real quick not to run the truck over the fresh drifts until they'd been shoveled first. You need a pick-axe to break that stuff up after it has been packed.

You guys hunker down and stay safe.

Wow, Joe! You've been "Bomb Cycloned" for sure.

Stay safe, Friend.

Sure was the last thing I was wanting - that's for sure.

I know Russ has been fighting this winters snow for some time now, so I can count myself lucky that we got as far as we did with minimal snow fall this winter - that is of course until this last one... :shake

Better keep an eye on your roof. Those snow loads can get pretty substantial.

That it can Hank. This time around we didn't get much snow on the roof as the wind kept it from accumulating any great deal on the roof. We're snowed in however, to say the least...

Hey Joe,.... I've got a tractor that'll make short work of that snow, and you're welcome to use it.  :) :bl th up :toast

Ever think of a dog sled?

If all else fails, a snowmobile would be a lot of fun, too.  Plus, after a dozen or so passes back and forth, you could probably drive on it.  Call it a civic service.

Well, you're always looking for an excuse to tinker out in the shed. SNOW SHOES!

You guys are right! I'm gonna have to start thinking all three; tractor, dog-sled, and snow shoes... Once I get all three of those - I bet it'll never snow again... :laffing

And that might just be worth it!!!  :bl th up

Just an added note;

I expect with the amount of snow we have here where I live, and the White River (which I have to cross to get to our local shooting Range),,, well I'll be hard pressed to get any March TMA shooting done this month unless I get very lucky and we have us a warm dry spell... It's gonna be tough.

I know how Russ must of felt last year as he waited and waited for the snow to melt at his Range so he could get some shooting done. It's dis'heartening at best, not being able to get out and do something you really enjoy and look forward to doing... Well, it's time for a nice hot shower and afterwards find my pillow...  Good night all!  :shake

Well, I checked my boat that I've had covered on my patio throughout this past Fall & Winter, and I had a giant ice-cube in the bow (gun well)  that's about 8 inches deep...  Had a leak in the front part of the tarp I cover my boat with - and the bow sticks out about 4 inches from under my patio so I expect that's where the ice build up came from - from the run off above...

Not a big deal however as it's melting and I'm bailing the water out with a cup as the ice melts down. Doesn't appear to be any damage - though my anchor, two life jackets, one black bucket to put fish in (when we caught 'em), and my fishing net, are all froze in the ice a'little bit, but it's melting pretty good right now. We have warm temperatures a coming for the next 10 days - mostly mid to high 40's with a day or two perhaps in the 50's...

I sure as h-ll hope ol' man winter is through with us now...  :laffing

Good to hear, Rondo!  :bl th up

They are calling for mid 40's Wednesday, then mid to upper 50's after that... This snow ought'a keep melting pretty good.

I swear, if there was such a thing as a land Shark, I'd be it... Every bit of food I get near I seem to eat it, or snack on it when I pass close to it... So far the cat's dish has been safe... I don't like being bottled up like this when I have projects I want to do, but can't because of the weather right now... Well, time for a snack...  :Doh! :laffing
