A really neat untouched Indian Trade Gun. It was made by Parker,Field & Co. in 1856 so it very well could be a Little Big Horn piece.  Actually, during the Reno Court of Inquiry which caused the Ordinance Dept. to test Indian captured  guns for their supposed superiority  to govt. guns 2 Parker Trade  guns were specifically mentioned.  The barrel, lock and trigger guard were all painted Black on this gun as were many of the Captured Indian guns as per John S. Dumont's "Custer Battle Guns".  The lock hammer screw is gone and the hammer is being held on only by the old paint which also conceals the Tombstone Fox.  There are are numerous squire shank brass tack shanks left in the buttstock and the ones on the wrist are still all there.  You can see where there were 2 hide strap  repairs to the forestock at one time which are now gone.  The barrel was painted over these hide straps and now the original finish is exposed.

Cool. Got to see a bunch of old trade guns when I visited the Museum of the Fur Trade. I need to get back there some day... Pinedale, too.
