Rawhide repaired percussion Plains Rifle

German silver American eagle inlay on r/s of butt stock. Profusely brass- tacked on butt and tang. Caliber .44. Shows heavy use and repairs. Rusting on exterior of octagonal barrel. No ramrod.

Is that a cheekpiece on both sides of the stock or are my eyes deceiving me. That happens anymore.
