Title: September Postal Targets
Post by: Nessmuk on September 01, 2023, 12:02:49 PM
September Postal Targets
[/b]

This Month we're shooting the King's X!

Scoring is slightly more challenging. The inner circle is worth  10 points, in the black X is worth 5 points.
ANYTHING IN THE WHITE OUTSIDE IS MINUS 5 points. Yes, that means LOSE 5 points.
As usual if the line is broken it scores the higher point value.

Ohhhhhh! Now THAT'S what I call a target! This one fights back with its minus points. What a super idea.  :applaud What a challenge!  One question though, print it portrait or landscape?

Hi there, Salty.   :wave "Welcome" from SW Ohio to The Few, The Proud (no not the Marines) the postal shooters. Glad to have you, and man, that's a target to be proud of! If you haven't done so, give the bullseye a whirl too.

Thank you sir. I will try to get the bullseye target but the weather in south Texas is still hot and humid. No sign of letting up.

 Nessmuk,
Did I do wrong here? I posted my target. Is there a correct way to enter my target?

Not doing so well this month.  I was going to go out to shoot today, but for some reason am just dragging.  That seems to happen a LOT since I had Covid-19 the first time, and the second go-around hasn't helped any!  Yeah, I know: excuses, excuses, excuses....  :laffing

Well, I got out to the range this morning.  Brought the Hodgepodge Rifle, targets, scope and an unmentionable I needed to sight in.  Got to the range, opened the trunk of the car and didn't see my shooting bag nor my powder horn!  I thought when I loaded the car that I was light on "stuff".  :o  Should have inventoried what I had!  :Doh!  Ah well, it looks like September's shoot is not going to happen for me unless I can squeeze out tomorrow for another try.

The 56 year old unmentionable however, is sighted in so will probably go on the market shortly.  :bl th up

Well Kees, you have been really faithful shooting those postal targets. Even with having a full plate. So I certainly understand if you can't get the Sept. shoot in. And the other guys probably feel the same way. I hope you have better luck with the October shoot. Because as bad as I have to say it,  unless something changes,  I don't think there will be any postal shoots next year.

2024 Postal Match will start in March and go through October

I have spoken!!

IMHO, and in all fairness, I believe that No Powder is expressing frustration. This forum has 4425 members, it has had three NMD's in recent years, each of which has offered fun, challenging, and different targets to shoot at eight months of the year. To shoot in the postals costs zero plus you don't even have to be a member. However, In 2021, 22 and so far this year, out of those 4000+ people merely seven (7) has been the top number of shooters in any given month. That number usually decreases to four or five. For me, it's  not a "match" when the same guys trade a couple points or X's. Don't get me wrong, the NMD job must be very frustrating and I'm not criticizing them. Each one has done his very best, but very few have participated.  I'm sorry to say it but unless three or four new shooters, like Salty, join in this month, my thought is to give up the postal after the October shoot.

It's been a bit of a frustrating year for me so far.  I miss shooting in the TMA Postal Match this year due to both lack of available shooting time/venue, and the lack of a functional gun (WHAT??) are my sole miserable excuses. I shall be prepared to do yeoman battle at the target faces come 2024, promise.

Great job you've done this year, Mark, kudos to you, Sir!   :bl th up :bl th up  :*:

The history of the TMA Postal Matches is that there never has been a lot of "monthly / annual" participation from the get go of this organization (as compared to the membership numbers). The Postal Matches were offered as a ("perk") one might say, for the supporting paid membership, which some years participation was better then other years.

Another thing that needs to be looked at is; not everyone has a "Printer" and also the cost of ink in printing monthly targets...

There's also the posting of monthly target(s) after they've been shot for all to see... Some folks just don't have these capabilities any longer to do so. Can a shot target be mailed in - in todays Postal Matches?

These are just some of the above things that work against (and -or- for) TMA Postal Matches. At the end of the day there is no perfect "Postal Match Operations" that works for everyone. But also at the end of the day, it's the only options some Postal Match participants have... Good or bad...

I feel you've done a good job, Mark. :shake

I'm sorry for hurting anyone's feelings. That was not my intent. As 49er said, I am frustrated. When I look back to the beginning of the shoots, I saw a lot of interest. So Mark, I thank you for a job well done. I'm glad you & Joe were ready to step up to the plate and continue the shoots. Thanks to all who competed and gave me a reason to make smoke. There's nothing better than smoke pole smoke.

Thank you Mark!  I will do my best to shoot every month next year.  I still haven't hit that 100 yard "shingle", need to give it another go.  October starts tomorrow so I get another chance to go burn some powder!

Kees, I still need to take a crack at that 100 yard shingle (which I've yet to do), so I do need to get on that. Weather wise, this year has not been a good shooting year for me at all. The heat just zapped me and I seem to have lost my "giddy up and go" when it comes to making a Range trip. This is certainly something I need to work on.  :shake

Well let me dig in my bag of excuses too.
I fully intended on participating this yr, had fun with last yr but...like everyone else life got in the way.
Spotty internet ( satellite) ,  spend the summertime cutting up logs for the winter,  etc etc
I hope we do it again next yr .  if I don't fully participate next time, throw me in the brig
