another knife
« on: November 16, 2012, 09:41:40 AM »
Recently, I purchased a shooting bag from the Leatherman with a knife sheath attached to the strap.  None of my knifes would fit the sheath so, I just had to make another knife!

Here she is in the sheath.

Green River 3 inch paring blade, maple slabs, poured pewter finger guard, with brass pins.  It ought to work for cutting patches, field dressing birds, small game, and trout

Now that's my kinda knife. No disrespect to the "big Knife" crowd, but I've always said, it's not the size of the kife, it's how you use it!!!!!

PD, A fella just can't argue with these two yahoo's....IMHO, they both know their "stuff"!

I'm also a dues paying member of "the smaller knife" clan, and I have to admit this is the first time I have seen a horizontal knife sheath on the belt.

You'd think that as old as I am that same thought would have passed my mind at least once over the years, but the concept is totally new to this old boy.

I really like this!
Plus, you did a really nice job on the Slabs, and Pewter finger guard.

I guess I must belong to the small knife crowd. Seldom carry one over 4" blade, I do like the craftsmanship and looks of a big knife , but just never had a desire to tote one. I nomally carry a belt axe when treking and/or camping so don,t feel the need to carry another big cutting tool .
       Nice knife , well done.

Great knife. I like how you have it mounted. I am thinking of doing something similar to what you've got there. Russ, how do you have your knife set up? In thinking about how to set up my knife I envisioned attaching it to the strap this way. Interested to see your setup. Thanks

Darren, my patch knife, or "my small do-every-thing knife" is mounted on my bag strap, just like PD did on the belt.
I do carry a larger belt knife, but it is really very seldom used.
I looked around on Photobucket for a picture or two and couldn't find one of the bag and knife....I did find a picture of several other knives you guys have all seen before but I couldn't post them because they are too large.
I will try a couple pictures from my computer as an attachment......

I apologize for my ignorance, plus the fact that I only "half-way" read the original post before spouting off.

Honest mistake,  Argentina's gauchos & many medeivel Knights and mounted troops carried a horizontal belt knife.  Very handy from the saddle.............Tom
