Title: RWS #11 percussion caps
Post by: Bison Horn on February 16, 2014, 07:16:05 PM
Anyone used these? German made. Powder Inc says they're a little hotter than CCI #11 or regular #11's. Buy a quantity and the price drops down even with the HazMat $. BH

I have been using them for 30+ years and I would consider none other.
Tried CCI, didn't care for them.
Tried Remington, same situation.
RWS go off everytime for me if I do my job.  I have not had the same experience with the others.

The German caps are every bit as reliable as the CCI's, which I've never had a problem with.  :rt th

Thanks for the reviews, will be trying them out as others are scarce to find. I got some rockers for back up, but just don't shoot them enough. BH

The ONLY caps I've ever really had problems with, were the Italian made caps (I don't know if they still make them or not),... the priming would fall out of them, rendering the caps useless.  :(

I had that happen with a case of CCI Musket caps, years ago.  I got a phone call from one of my dealers who had purchased them, and I must say, it wasn't a pleasant call to receive.  IIRC, CCI did make it up to the guy, but I would not have wanted to be the rep that called on him to rectify the problem.  Whew!!  He was hot.

I use to use RWS caps and pistol caps from Navy Arms.  When I was no longer able to find them locally I bought CCI.  Had great luck with both.  Never tried CCI musket caps, just the RWS and Navy Arms marked caps.  My hoarded musket cap supply from the late 1960s is mostly gone but I have managed to augment my supply a little thanks to a kind person on a forum who sent me his remnant supply that he no longer needed.  Still, have to find a supply of winged (RWS) musket caps as I have great confidence in them.

The RWS caps used to work just fine for me ... but that was a long time ago before my rock-lock.

I used the German caps until the supply locally dried up - loved em and would have gladly payed a bit more to keep em around - now I only see CCI and Remington on the store shelves. The BP shop & smithy is long gone that carried em down in the canyon on the way to town.....
The CCI's have been reliable and available so they are now in the possibles - I've tried several others an haven't been impressed either way - most I have tried have been reasonable and reliable with a moderate amount of care and attention to detail when placing on the nipple and keeping them out of humidity.....(not too much of a problem here when the relative humidity hangs between 10 and 20%) But for some reason the ones I started with in the 70's are remembered fondly enough to keep a few dozen "pack ratted" away in a tin just because.......

Quite a few thousand. Wore out my 50 buff/Lt bench barrel with them only used around 100,000 + before it could not keep the 1 inch X-ring at 100 yards.

Best cap for accuracy and reliance IMHO

10K plus for around $400 over many years.

Powder would be 750 #'s or so Wow that # just stunned me. Just did more figures and powder cost was about 5K or so not like todays costs.

Wow that's where my money went instead of booze and loose women!!
