Haversack and moccassins
« on: November 30, 2016, 07:37:28 PM »
I've been meaning to post these for awhile.  I must admit, at times I feel a bit intimidated by all of the really great looking items being made by the members here.  Then I remember, we were all have to start or or in my case re-start somewhere.  For me, it's been re-learning the things I did over thirty years ago.

So here's my haversack and first pair of center seam moccasins (please don't look to close at the Dr. Scholls' in the moccasins  :rotf ).  The haversack is made of canvas and has green felt piping on the edges to help reduce the fraying of the canvas.  It's 13" wide by 15" deep.

The moccasins were made from suede splits that I got at Tandy Leather.  I used a baseball stick to sew them together.  Took forever to get the pattern right.

I also finished a scabbard for my Brown Bess bayonet and I'll post pictures later.

I make insoles out of thick buffalo hide for my mocs,.... makes walkin' on rocks MUCH more comfortable.  :)
