Title: Fire striker forgeing question

OK, I have been kind of playing around.  This is both modern and period. I made a striker for my modernFiresteel(ferrocerium rod)  heat the metal(1095) and beat it,   then quenched it. It is now hard. Wroks great with the Firesteel.  


A) will it be too brittle?


B) will I need to temper it to get it to work with flint?

With the steel im shaving off bits of it. BUT with flint and striker, the flint will have to shave off bits of the striker?  Correct?

When I made them from poundin them out from old files , I heated until just yellow and quenched in water . They always threw lots of fire and never had one break in usage .

FG1 has said it right. if you drop that fire steel onto a concrete floor, it may break, but probably not.  That 1095 makes a fine firesteel when water quenched.
