Title: What have I got here?
Post by: rollingb on January 10, 2013, 10:54:13 PM
Well, I picked up some kind of trade gun at a sale today,.... "CHEAP".
Nobody seemed to know anything about it, but it looks like it was built from some kind of NWTG kit that was put together rather poorly.

This thing has a 41" 24 ga. barrel, with 2 sets of wedding bands,.... first set of bands start 8" ahead of the breech, and the 2nd. set of bands are 3" further down the barrel.
The barrel also has the "sitting fox" stamp.

It has a walnut stock,... nailed on butt plate,.... and an over-sized trigger guard that is at least 1/2 again "BIGGER" than any trigger guards on the NorthStar West trade guns I've owned,.... and the trigger is also bigger than the ones on Matt's Northstar trade guns.

It has a Pedersolli "LOTT" lock.

Anyone know if Pedersolli ever offered a NWTG kit?
I'm sure it's not one of Curly's early trade guns, because of the Pedersolli made lock.
This thing is a real "clunker", and looks like it was put together by a blind person,.... but I don't think I got hurt too bad for $85.00, the barrel alone should be worth about twice that much.  :)

That is a good deal I would say. At that price you can put some work in it and still come out smelln like a rose.
Let us know how she shoots.

It could be one of Curly's with a replacement lock. In the early day's,he made his own lock's,and with all the love and respect I can muster, they were crude,as was his gun's! The lock would wear out FAST!

But when you look at originals, his are spot on! I LOVED to visit and watch him light up when he talked of Trade gun's and he would be the first to tell you the original's were cheap junk. You have to remember what the purpose of the trade gun was. Get as much as you can for as little as possable!

I have built extremley fine NWTG"S,perfect inletting, moulding around the lock panels and forearm,ect........ I dont think that gun was happy. Like putting perfume on a pig!

Picturs would help a lot! Here's my Curley.

12ga,43"barrel. Thats a pre '64 silver quarter in the wrist that Curly sanded to look like a peace medal. Pretty cool!

PS, if you want to quadruple your money............

Well I gotta say,... "crude" is a darn good definition of what I've got here.  :laffing

I've got it part way torn down right now,... at least one underlug needs to be re-soldered (the one closet to the muzzle), and I don't know what else I'm going to find that needs fixin'.

I'll get some pictures of it posted when I getter fixed and back together.  :)
