What paint for cotton canvas duck?
« on: May 26, 2018, 12:29:15 PM »
I have a question for all you artists out there,.... what kind of paint should I use to paint....
Traditional Muzzleloading Assc.
on 10oz. cotton canvas duck material?

I'm tryin' to make a couple of banners to take to rendezvous, so the paint will probably have to be oil based (and maybe somewhat "flexible"?).

Can I just use regular oil based paint and maybe thin it a bit with paint thinner?

TIA for any helpful suggestions you fellas can throw my way.

Sorry Rondo, no idea about paint for that.

BUT

I do have a suggestion about what kind of tape you can use on your 10 oz cotton Canvas DUCK material.

Whatever you use, I suggest NOT thinning it if you want nice, crisp lines.  The thinner the paint, the more it will wick into the surrounding fabric.  Any exterior paint should do.  My first canoe was canvas over wood strips and I waterproofed it with plain Latex paint.

Well that makes sense. Ink on a silk screened shirt doesn't fade too quickly, nor run, and that's about what you are looking for on your banner. Well researched and thought out!
