Title: Is Ed Rayle still making barrels?
Post by: Winter Hawk on January 28, 2019, 01:54:40 PM
I called his number the other day and got the message that it is no longer in service.  Did he close up shop?  Here's the contact information I have for him:

Ed Rayl, P.O. Box 91, Gassaway WV 26624 304-364-8269

Thanks,
~Kees~

Check over at the American Long Rifles site, Kees... He was on that site at one time and they would probably know. I've ordered two barrels from him in the past and have no complaints what so ever on his work.  :hairy

He absolutely is. In Nov. I recieved a custom .62 smooth barrel for a pistol. 304-364-8269 is current.
Great guy to do buisness with :hairy
Call in the morning, he is hard to connect with as a one man shop.

Thank you for confirming that phone number, Ridjrunnr.  :toast  I probably miss-dialed.  :Doh!  I'll try again tomorrow.

I'm thinking of having a smoothbore barrel made for my T-C Pennsylvania Hunter and want to discuss it with him.  Of course Bobby Hoyt comes to mind also, as well as Captchee although I don't know how he is doing in the shop since he is still recovering from surgery.  He's back to going to work though, the last time I spoke with him.

Thanks again,
~Kees~

Glad to help, all are capable but I will say Ed went above and beyond, in service and product.

I got through to Ed today, but he did not sound enthused about my little project, had lots of reasons why it wouldn't work.  He finally said he is 1 1/2 years behind.  I will try others....

Hes probably busy enough to go with work that he can run with other stuff to eliminate odd setups, but thats just a guess. My request was to duplicate an 1807
Harpers Ferry pistol barrel made by Pedersoli. I wanted one in .62 smooth. I ordered in June and got it in Nov. but he told me up front it may be several months but would try to "fit it in".
He may very well have gotten buried with work since then.

For your project I would go with Bobby Hoyt.  So you are asking him to make a barrel that fits a TC Pennsylvania?  Will that take a TC Hawken barrel and tang 15/16 across the flats??

Yes sir.  I'm looking it with a regular breechplug, not the T-C patent breech with the "antechamber".  My Deer Creek / CVA rifle has a Colerain barrel Captchee made for me like that, without the CVA patent breech and the vent in the barrel.  If possible also, I would like it to be octagon to round like the PA Hunter rifle barrel, so I have a matching set.  The rifle is a flintlock with an L&R RPL lock on it.
