a super affordable bore light for .50 cal and larger
« on: October 14, 2017, 03:11:57 PM »
I'm still laughing about how well this works! I have been looking for a small diameter flashlight to drop in the barrel of my .50 traditional sidelock to check bore condition. I  thought I found one in the AAA single-cell Maglite, but it is just a smidgen too large. Today I found what I have been looking for, and then some. At the Dollar Tree store (where every item is $1) I found a "key ring red laser pointer/super bright led flashlight combo." First I pitched the key chain and ring. Next I masking taped the light switch button to keep it on while in use. There are two buttons on the barrel of the light but it drops freely from the muzzle to the breech.  It works in spades! SKU #639277702463. It even comes with the three LR41 batteries that power it. :laffing

I use Thill brand bobber lights.  They will easily fit a .22 bore.  They are about a buck each on line.

Thill brand bobber lights

I just Googled them and at a quick glance, they appear to be selling for $7.50 to 9.50.

That seems a little spendy to me, John
I recently got a 3-pack at Wally World for less than five bucks, but it was on a "end-cap special".
Amazon has these things fairly cheap, but they're still a bit more than my last purchase at WW.

Here is link to Amazon....seems they have become a lot more expansive than what I was paying just a few years back. I have been a user of these lights for at least 10 years, they simply can't be beat. I would suggest the yellow if anyone is picking up a single light, but quite often you don't have that choice.

Yep, somebody's tryin' to rip folks off.  They are less than two bucks at Scheels and Bass Pro, but can be had for much less.

Just looked on line, WOW am I glad I bought a bunch of them last year.  Looks like about $2 @ is the best price out there and that's in quantity.  Looks like Scheels, Bass Pro and Wally World are now the go to places.

I know what'cha mean.  :bl th up
I removed the screw in mine, and keep both (the screw and the light), in a small buckskin draw-string bag with my cleanin' jags.

I just put a nut or a thick washer on mine...the screw can't go down far enough to complete the circuit.
