Title: New Horn
Post by: BEAVERMAN on February 18, 2012, 11:52:41 AM
It's been a while since I've made horn dust, been too busy catching up on leather projects for stock and orders, thankfully thats a done deal and decided to pull down the milk crate full of horns and a make some dust! digging through it I found this one that I cut and drilled a couple years ago and it spoke to me screaming " finish me for Petes sake!!!" so i decided to see how bad I could screw up a horn seeing how I have not made one for darn close to a year! here it is for your amusement!

Sure got a pretty color to it, Jim.  Might dramatic!!
I reckon you subscribe to the theory the neck staple is to be used as a guide for the strap, not for the strap to attach to.  If not, it is going to be carried at a mighty strange position.
Looks to me that you need to make a few more horns.  your absence from the horn bench has sharpened your need to work on 'em.
Good job.
John

Nice one Jim! I like the figure in that horn too. Looks like you put a lot of elbow grease in the finish!

John, this is the first horn that I've made with the staple on the side for keeping the strap from sliding, thought I'd do something different this time.

Maybe not too nice (is there such a thing?), but VERY nice! I love the way you bring the grain out in your horns.
