Title: Pedersoli breech ?
Post by: ridjrunr on May 19, 2012, 09:06:31 PM
Has anyone here ever taken out a drum from a Pedersoli Pennsalvania/Dixie rifle?
I recently acquired such rifle in caplock and wish to switch it to flint by using another flintlock (Pedersoli) that I have. I am just wondering if it screws in further than the barrel wall or past that ,through the breech plug threads as the spanish guns do.? The lockplates are the same and touch hole to pan will line up good.

thank you for any input,ridjrunr

yep Dan , i have .
the drum screws into the breech plug as far as the anti chamber . it does not run across that chamber like the newer spanish guns do .
so it screws threw wth barrel wall and anbout 3/16 into the breech plug

Thanx, do you think I'll have to run a plug in the same depth and then drill and tap for the touch hole liner.? Not shure what you are describing as anti chamber or is that just through the barrel wall and then through the depth of the breech plug threads ( on the one side ),thats it.

looks like this Dan

if you made your own  flashole liner  that had a longer neck , you wouldnt have to worry about the  exsposed threads.
the  threads are metric . so you could also  remove the breech plug , , remover the threads in the plug and then screw a liner in
