This is a horn that I just finished. I built it to trade for a bag I saw, hope he accepts the trade.
The plug is hollowed and of cherry, seam sealed with beeswax and pinned with 8 mesquite thorns.
The applied tip is a turned pc. of whitetail, sealed in the same fashion and pinned with toothpicks.
Dimensions are, a hair over 13" around the outside curve with a butt plug 2 1/4" in dia.
It is a right side carry with a subtle double curve.
As always, questions, comments or concerns welcome.

"Pinned with mesquite thorns"....now that has considerable appeal.
Can't say exactly why, unless it reminds me of the old scars on my legs.
Good work my friend!
I have heard of other types of pins, different exotic type wood, brass, copper, etc, etc, but this mesquite thorn is a first for me.
I like it!

Yeah - My first thought was "as long as it is the horn & not me!"
Nice work Dan!

Lol, they nasty little buggers. We had a slight lul in the north Texas heat this past week so I was able to work in the garage in the mornings. Glad I got it done,it's 94 now and no windows in my garage
I got a bad rendezvous itch and can't do any more til in the morn, hopefully will shoot my
July targets.

Good looking horn, Dan. Came out nice.
A question and a comment.
How did you finish the base plug?
I think I would have made the tip just a little longer. To me, it's just a bit stubby. Or maybe it needs to be just a little thinner. Not sure which.

Bigsmoke, after turning and sanding the end, I put it in the window of my car in the sun to heat up,then back on the lathe spinning and working Johnson's paste wax in it. (Soaks it up real well)Did this about 4 times. And I thank ye and agree, the tip would have been better a bit longer. Simply a miscalculation on my part. Had a heck of a time,it was the 3 rd pc of antler and I finally got one trued up before it was too small in dia. Another 3/4" in length would have done it.
However,I have seen sculpted paneled tips in this same or similar proportion.
I guess I'll have to do another
Thank ya'll for the input
