will a shot load for sqwerl or bird work at all well, or at least decent, with a 28 gauge smoothie?
if so, what load and what shooting distances?

I used 60gr of 3F and 1.5x by volume of #6s. Kept a pretty good pattern with period wadding (tow, paper, etc) out to 25 yds or so.

In my 28ga, i shoot 50gr-3fg behind card wads and 7/8oz. (65gr vol) of 6's for small game up to pheasants. Like Mario, i'd say 25yds or so is good.

I have a swamped 28 ga smooth Colerain barrel I swap out with the rifled barrel on my stock. For turkey and most small game I load by the volume method. I use 70 gr FFg Goex; OS card;cushion wad, & 1.5X grains of pdr charge with any size shot (105 gr). Out to 40 yards it'll tear the head off a turkey. It is my best load developed. (Qualifier: This is what my guns taste requires. Yours,,.....maybe not so good. ) T+E= S,... That is; Trial + Error= Success!!
