UPS man dropped off my Fowler Stock Blank yesterday, Cherry.
Can't wait to get started on this
From Pecatonica Long Rifle supplys
-
ya wouldn't be interested in posting some details about the build now would ya
Ain't much can compare in beauty to a nice fowler.
-
My New England Fowler build with a Cherry Stock.
the barrel is a Rice , 46 inches long , oct to round, 12 gauge from Buckeye Barrels
the Lock is a Round Face English Lock from Jim Chambers
I'm going to Friendship this weekend and hope to pick up a trigger guard and butt plate
-
yep, sounds like it is going to be nice
-
Watch out you don't set fire to your hand---those things really spark ! Great choice of parts....
-
Went to NMLRA at Friendship and got a Butt Plate and Trigger Guard from Reeves Goering
Nice castings
Made a couple of rough cuts on the stock
-
This is looking good.
-
I spent about 40 hours inletting the Barrel and Tang and I have the Ramrod groove and hole drilled.
Ready to start the lock inletting next
-
I installed the barrel lugs and pinned the barrel to the stock, Inlayed the lock, butt plate.
Shaved the wood down alittle.
I made the trigger and installed it, working on the ram rod pipes now.
-
You are making very nice progress. I like the lines of her.
You inlet the butt plate? That must have been a tricky job.
Did you build the wooden chest in the background? That looks like some mighty fine work too.
-
You are right, the butt plate was little tricky, It took me a couple times to get it right.
My next door neighbor built that box for me, holds my shooting stuff,
-
I cut the Trigger from this plate, did a little polishing
-
Well I have all the inletting done, down to sanding and final shaping, Cherry is a different wood to work with than the maple, learned a lot from this build
-
What a joy to watch this materialize.
Great job so far.
John
-
looks very nice.

Finished the Fowler Last night , shot it today
I used Easy-Off Oven Cleaner for a stain, came out real nice, hand rubbed 8 coats of Tru- Coat.
Polished the lock and Barrel
I made a frt. sight from sheet brass in a heart shape, It's a little high for now, I'll trim it when sighting in.
-
A couple more pics

Nice job.
Oven cleaner for staining the stock????? New one on me. Got some details on that?
-
I used Easy Off oven cleaner, contains lye, chemical reacts with the cherry wood and turns brown, much like Aqua Fortis and Maple.
Spray on , wipe off, neutralize using vinegar, water.
my 1st time trying it, worked great.
-
Never heard of the oven cleaner stain before but it sure did work. That is certainly one nice, graceful fowler you built, Tom.
