Enclosed are images of John Gardner of Newcastle , England patent of an early type of percussion system for the use of steel top hat caps of the period 1815-20. The locks are built on a flintlock barrel system using the drum and nipple priciple but not a conversion

Pretty cool. I imagine they were still figuring out what to do with the percussion caps during this period in time....

At this period there was strong competition from different types of ignition using the fultimate compound ,such has the Scent Bottle lock , the Patchlock , the Tubelock, and finally the percussion cap.

Feltwad,
That is a beautiful shotgun.
Any chance to get a photo or two of the entire thing?
What an exciting time that was in the development of firearms.
Thank you for sharing that with us.
