Title: My Plunder Order Came Today
Post by: Ohio Joe on October 15, 2016, 09:00:55 PM
I have to give a thumbs up to TOW... I ordered some flints for my Large Siler Locks and L&R John Balies Lock and asked for flat tops rather then the hump back flints and they delivered. Thank you TOW. Also ordered a couple spare vents and a new rear sight I've been threatening to put on one of my flintlock rifles. All in all, a pretty good day and a bonus with Rob getting our new TMA Paper Silhouette Practice Targets posted. (Thanks Rob  :toast )

Russ, if you specify on your order in the "special instructions" to please send flat top flints as they work best in your locks,,, TOW I have found will do their best to do just that. At the very least you most likely will not get a pointy pyramid humpback, but a flatter top along with some down right flat tops.

I've always had good luck with TOW.

Do you use a Mizzy Wheel, I think it's called to flatten your humpback flints?

Well, nuts! I wish I had known this when I just ordered some.

What's the point of the hump anyway? Just easier to make that way?

pete, if need be it's not a big deal to file/grind off the flint's hump back a little or a lot, just a bit of time consuming work.  or just leave it as is.  last week i got in 2 dozen english flints from totw and had asked for flat tops and lots were not all that flat.  for me, don't matter much, i can still get good cock top purchase on a leather wrapped flint.  it's all good.  don't sweat it.
