How many states have a state muzzleloading association?
What function does it serve within the state?
Aaand, go.

Garden State Black Powder Association | Promote and celebrate America’s colonial history from 1740 through 1840 (http://www.gsbpa.org)

Montana has a few local clubs that I know of but no State org I have heard of.
Hard to keep alive with all the high tech distractions. Very few TMA members
-
New York State has one as well: New York State Muzzle Loaders Association - The Association (http://www.newyorkstatemuzzleloadersassn.com) Unfortunately, I'm not a member and probably won't become one any time soon.* However, while perusing the site, I found a schedule of a local club's 2016 ML shoots, which was something I didn't expect.
*Have never heard a word about them or read about them in any publication.

Surprisingly, California does have a state association.
I think the main function they have is the annual state muzzleloading championship shooting match held every year now in Sacramento. It used to be held in Fresno.
No doubt, it is allowed here in LaLaLand because muzzleloaders do not typically have large capacity magazines.

Nebraska has the United Nebraska Muzzle Loading Association and they hold the annual Nebraska Muzzle Loading State Shoot each year. The two I've attended in past years were well ran events, and they try to get the Nebraska ML Clubs to volunteer to help run it. I've not been to one in probably 7 to 8 years so my info may be out of date.
The UNMLA is pretty much a copy of the NMLRA shooting rules and programs. I certainly enjoyed the two I attended and much of that is do to the good folks you meet at these type events out this way. Pretty much a laid back easy going approach to a fun pass time/hobby.

There's two clubs here in South Dakota
Muzzleloaders of the Black hills located on the western part of south Dakota
Dacotah territory muzzleloaders that are located in the Aberdeen area which is far north east part of the state
Both clubs have rondys
I've never been to the one in the hills
I went to one of the Dacotah territory rondys a couple years ago which was actually a High plains rondevous
I'm not sure about it there was hardly any advertising for it and when we got close to the area there were very small signs with just an initial and an arrow I talked to a couple vendors and they were disappointed and expressed concerns with trying to keep the get together small and not branch out
I am afraid that kind of attitude will kill interest in muzzleloaders and rondevous alike
But who am I to say anything
I would kill for a club or even a couple guys close to me to shoot with
Riley how many groups does Minnesota have it seems like there is a ton of stuff going on there

(Muzzleloaders of the Black Hills),,, (Chadron Fur Trade Rendezvous - Bordeaux Creek Fur Trade And Muzzle Loaders Assn),,, and (Camp Clark Raiders - Bridgeport, Nebraska) are the three clubs I know of closest to me that I should frequent more often, but don't always have enough time to do so unfortunately.
This is one nice thing about the TMA, we can bring like minded folks together 24/7 through our website topics and postal match competitions.

Here in Indiana I'm fortunate to live only an hour from the NMLRA home, Walter Cline range and grounds of which I'm a proud member. Along with that I'm within an 1 12 hour drive to 4 other clubs.
All of these organizations are promoters of the black powder shooting sports, education, skills, crafts and heritage.

Washington state has one as well and got a nice write up in Mike Nesbitt's "Shootin' the Bull" column in the Jan. - Feb. '17 Muzzleloader.

Always wanted to get to one of those but never made it. Have to work this weekend unfortunately - otherwise I'd be very tempted to load the wife in the SUV and head on down. Just talked to my son in Kearney and he tells me it starting to snow there, but I think it's suppose to be decent this weekend. Enjoy the convention Rondo. I'll catch up with you when we get better weather.
-
Yes, they're forecasting a chance of snow here in northern KS today too,.... but it looks like the temps may be in the 40's over the convention's week-end. (hope so) :shake

odd I was President for 5 years and had press releases in dozens of news papers. When Gary Fallesen was outdoors writer for Rochester D&C he'd regulary feature NYSMLA NEWS.
You're just not reading the right stuff!

BPB, Neither the NYSMLA nor local BP shoots were mentioned in the Kingston Freeman, our local paper. One of the former members of our club, who has since relocated, was a member of the NYSMLA, which is how I learned of it. Unfortunately, the corresponding secretaries of [northern] Ulster Co. ML clubs never (really!) submit local shoot dates and locations to the aforementioned newspaper, which will gladly publish them.

Maven,
Doesn't Bob Patterson live in that area? It is a shame many NY ML associations will not send out shoot invites. Actually IMO it is a crime against the sport. They are not fulfilling their fiduciary responsibilities by sitting a the big table keeping all the cookies for themselves.
For years NYSMAL had the Battle on Snowshoes but no one wanted to step up and run it once a few guys couldn't make it.
At one time I had a email list of probably a hundred news papers across the state. Some of the papers would send me a note now and then asking if we had anything planned.
Now that Vicky Fullington has passed this last Fall the web site may never get updated. She and Dan Fullington the newest NYSMAL Pres did much work to get the annual shoots located down state.
Tim Welch Past officer died in Dec. 2016 he was from Elbridge.
"Seadog" Wayne Seaburg just passed on Jan1 2017 he was another vendor and director and long time member.
I actually went out looking for places and events to shoot at. Tracked down phone numbers and names.
Now here in GA , especially this place is like a ghost town for ML'er shoots. I did my part for over 30 years running shoots attending meetings calling fund raising.
I'd like to shoot in competition but am reserved to shoot at a range by myself most of the time.
-
bpb, I don't know Bob Patterson, but Jack Patterson (builder, shooter) lives in Croghan. I met him through my now relocated friend, Rich/Rocky Rockwell*. As for places to shoot, i.e., woods walks, we have plenty, but you have to attend one to get a schedule for 2017. Not to worry as I have names telephone numbers.
*He was the NYSMLA I mentioned earlier.

Hello Thunderhawk1828,
I saw a video on youtube not so long ago of a club in Arizona shooting at a rather large field of metal gongs and silhouettes (which looked to be tons of fun :hairy
