According to the local weather people, 2016 has been the longest, coldest winter for the past 40 years.
I have been shoveling snow since 3 December, ever day I get up, go shovel snow, come back in and shower, then I have a cup of Jo.
Shoveling snow is a young man's job.
I don't mind it too bad until I start building up a sweat, then I back off a bit. I am scared to death I'll do something stupid and end up with pneumonia, and that's the last thing on earth I need right now.
Thought I'd share a little picture with you regarding cold weather.
I suspect the weather is probably not all that bad when you can still laugh about it....

I hear you, uncle Russ. We normally don't get much snow where I live, but we've had snow on the ground since December 14. I am going stir crazy as I haven't burned any powder since deer season ended.
-
Russ,.... I had that happen to me a few times when I lived in interior Alaska.
-
Send some of that snow east Russ, I can't ride my snow machine!
-
No snow left here at 7k, it melted already. Up on the top there is some....but we need a lot more and it needs to stick around awhile! Weather says "warm and mild", guess that means a few inches of white followed by a few inches of mud!......
-
We seem to get a reprieve from cold and snow with about 3 to 5 days of decent weather, then we land back on our butts with cold and snow and ice under it. Right now we're in our 3rd reprieve of the winter with high 40's to low 50's, and in about 6 or 7 days we're suppose to get hit again.
Problem is, the weather gets so damn cold and windy we can't make any black powder smoke offerings to old man winter to bring us nice weather, and he gets so upset he punishes us.....
-
Linda and I both watch a weather cam set up overlooking the Rathdrum Prairie.
Right now the temp reading is 38.1 degrees. Yesterday there was about 6 to 8 inches of snow built up on the deck railing. Today it is bare. Looks to me like it is thawing a little bit. The national graphic I saw in our paper this morning showed the whole north west socked in with snow for today. Hope it doesn't start raining, that just causes a heck of a mess.
Here on the sunny coast line of central California, we will be having light winds and cloudy skies, accompanied by temps in the mid 50's, if the weather guesser is to be believed.
Just enough bad weather to keep the arthritis stirred up.

Well, frost bite can cause your fingers and toes to fall off. So I guess if you was to "freeze your butt off" that would mean it was really cold!

Yep Steve, that's pretty dadburn cold.
And it's absolutely death on Car & Truck & Boat batteries.
Which, as we all know, sure don't come cheap anymore.
FWIW; I dug my Walleye boat out of the snow last Friday afternoon, the snow get's so heavy it collapses the supports holding the cover up and then you have a real mess when the cover collapses from the weight, and you all that stuff gets inside the boat, anyway I uncovered it, checked the water in the two main batteries, added a bit of water and put the chargers back on.
The front trolling motor is run by two Group 24, 12Volt AGM batteries, hooked in parallel.
Last year, up until right now, has been my first experience with AGM batteries and I am truly impressed....the boat has been covered since November with the chargers running on maintenance, the AGM's were at 100% while the lead core was maintaining at around 92%, which is about average for a Group 26 12Volt Deep Cycle in sub-freezing weather.
I guess what I'm getting at here is, if you have equipment that stays outside in the winter, and want a really good cold weather battery, you just might want to consider the AGM.....so far, it has proven far superior to any Deep Cycle I have used in the past.
Jus'sayin....

Been using them in my bikes for years. Love em.

And our thermometer reads 50d right now. I miss a good winter. Haven't been out on snowshoes or skis since we got to Ohio; grumble, grumble, mutter, snatslefrats! The husky is getting rusty!

Lucky boys
We are.back in the teens with 20-30 mile wind out of the north
I have frostless hydrants 6 feet deep that are froze
It's been terrible up here this year
The worst thing that can happen up here is snow melting
We lose all of our insulation
I hear you guys on the batteries
We started buying rebuilt interstates for 45.00 they are fantastic
No more than 2 years old when rebuilt and we love them
I do think we are suppose to warm this weekend so hopefully we can burn some powder
But I've said that every weekend since November
And I have yet to get out

I just put 2 new Interstates in my Dodge Cummins last week,.. to the tune of $383.00
-
I do alot of maintenance for the local guys
I install probably 50 or so batteries a year I've put them in everything from tractors combines semis
We have tried alot of batteries from just about every dealer
We had good luck with AC delcos but at 3 times the price
I've always been impressed with interstates batteries
They also make batteries for cordless tools that are fantastic
Hate to dive off of black powder topics
Let me know if you need anymore help finding them
I think it's a group 30 battery but double check on that
That's a nice tractor I think it's rated at 150 but very steady sound 130 hp
-
They are under the econopower sticker
Do you know what group batteries that old Cummins took
I'm a 7.3 Ford guy myself !!
-
Not sure what "group", but they were the 6 yr. MTP-65's,... with 1000 cranking amps,.... 850 cold cranking amps.

Lonewolfe20....don't worry too much about getting "off-topic" here in the General Forum, lots of topics are shared here that just pertain to life in general, we have found over the years that such a form is a welcome sight for a lot of folks, as a lot of information that is shared here is quite often refined and used by others.
