Title: A&H mountain rifle main spring
Post by: Matt B on March 15, 2017, 11:28:17 AM
I helped a friend out with his mountain rifle. It has rusted and I browned the barrel and cleaned it up. Any who, when I was putting it together I noticed the bottom part of the main spring was not attached to the top. It appears it broke at the bend.

I have replaced springs on my CVA and Traditions locks. But this one looks totally different. I tried TOW to see if they have a replacement lock. They do not have one.

Any suggestions?  I know the company is out of business and has been for a while.

Thanks

Do you know a good blacksmith?  He should be able to bend something for you.
In lieu of that, I am thinking Dixie might have something like that on hand.  They are my go to place for unusual parts and pieces.
Another thought would be to get Track's catalog and see if they have a lock that approximates the dimensions of your rifle's.  Could pursuade the new lock into fitting.
Another thought is that IIRC, that mountain rifle shares a bit of heritage with the Pedersoli rifles.  You might want to see if those lock parts would be interchangeable.  That is a wild, outside guess on my part.
Other than that, I guess you could loop a big rubber band around the hammer and hope for the best. :rotf  :applaud

A rubber band???? Hmmmm

We actually have a neighbor who runs a metal fab shop. I though about seeing what magic he could work

Thanks

Numrich Arms, and Brownell are a couple other places you could check.

Numrich doesn't list Austin & Halleck, or A&H, although you might be able to talk to someone and get a new mainspring.  A thread on the Cast Boolits site from 7 years ago mentions that Traditions had picked up all the A&H old stock and was selling it cheap.  The link they had was expired but the way folks responded it sounded like a Traditions mainspring might work.  Here is the thread, in the hopes that I am not doing a no-no by posting it:
