:Doh! Here's hoping everyone made the transition ok.
I ran into the problem of trying to use the "old link" to get on the "new forum"....WOW!
Rob got that fixed lickety-split, as soon as it was discovered, and for now we have two front doors, one from the old Forum, and one directly into the new Forum.
However, you will still want set a NEW Bookmark, for the NEW Forum.
I consider myself a wee bit below what may be consider even as "average", when it comes to using computer thingys, but I honestly do feel that, given a little time and everyone gets used to using this new forum, you are going to agree with me that this should have happened a long time ago....
Don't forget we have been operating on a system that was better'n 20 years old, serving a large community like we have, and in today's modern world of computers, anything that old is normally put to pasture years before it starts causing many of the problems we were being faced with.
But it has been finally been done, and I would like to wish everyone smooth sailing from here on out! :toast

I agree, me too! :bl th up
Glad to see you made the transition!
But once you check it out, kick the tires and give it a test drive, I think we are all going to appreciate the effort that went into this.
The "old system" should have been replaced years ago, the TMA was spinning its wheels constantly, trying to keep up with the ever evolving world of technology, and modernization was waaay over due.
Thanks for hanging in there, John
If you should know of anyone that had, or are still having any problem, please send them our new link.
tradmla.org (http://tradmla.org)
Those old Bookmarks will take everyone back to the old forum, which is silent.
We will all need to set new bookmarks.
(BTW: There is a large link at the top of the old page directing everyone here, but some folks are going to miss that and become frustrated, unfortunately)
Thanks, Uncle Russ...
-
It'll take me time to get use to the new format.
-
I missed that link two times before I figured it out. I consider mthat pretty good for me.
-
I've used this format for a long time on several other forums, and once everyone makes the connection and gets used to the new look, you will find that it much easier to use and more bells and whistles.

:Doh! Geeesh Hank, what's the good Uncle to do?
My friend, I think you need another visit to the Pacific Northwest.
Most, or at least 80% of the snow and ice is gone from here in the Basin, and the mountains around us stand out like a sore thumb on nice days like today.
Besides that I have a couple more locks we can tinker with, and we might even make it to the range on your next trip. :o
We didn't get to do much on your last trip, with Mama Bear laid-up in the Hospital from back surgery, we ended up kinda fending for ourselves, but I promise your next trip to be better.

Thanks David!
That's very encouraging, hope all the good folks get a handle on it.
I've been using for all of two days, and I like more all the time.

a BIG welcome to all who've made it over here! :wave
i know lotsa folks don't like new stuff, me included, so thanx for persevering and we'll be here to help you with your transition.
:*:
why new forum software??? well, simply put, we had issues with the old software in areas that affected both the administration and the user community. we spent many Many MANY months in tests and trials before committing to the live move. there were some issues, mainly in that some of the smilies in existing posts didn't properly convert (but you can edit yer post and fix the bad smilie, if need be). there are still a number of things to sort out, but we're getting there.
after arriving here, it would be a good idea to check the settings of your profile - there are lots of options that you can tailor to your personal requirements.
thank you for your patience and i hope that in the long run you'll find our new TMA home comfy. :shake

Made it over! Thanks for the notice. I don't post much, but liked reading on here and seeing what folks craft.

When we put that password in, what now seems like 100 years ago, just what the heck were we thinking?
Glad you made it, many of us are looking forward to much more interactive forum, as this puppy seems to have a lot of Bells & Whistles, compared to what we did have.
Always glad to have a knowledgeable person like yourself around!

Hey Russ, I enjoyed every minute. I'm trying to work out a few things at work with the bossman. If I can swing it, would late May work for you? Maybe it'll warm up a little by then.

OK, I'm here also.
I kinda fall into the neutral range.
From a user standpoint, I don't really like it, but I don't really dislike it either. I'm just here.
I have no idea what sort of behind the scenes battles took place, and wouldn't understand them even if I did. For my purposes, it worked OK for me.
That's about all I can think of to say. It worked OK for me. As I am sure this new one will. It'll work OK for me.
Even though I am not overly impressed with all of the supposed benefits, I would like to thank Rob for all the time and effort he has put into this conversion. I'm sure it wasn't an easy thing to do. Huzzahs to him.
John
-
have a small leap of faith, john.
we didn't beat ourselves up over doing this forum software transition because we liked the pain. we hated it. no one hated it more than me, big time. and it ain't over yet.
there was never a great list of "supposed benefits" to forum users, though there are some user "enhancements", notably the ability to share video media by simply posting the video link address. this forum software also includes a paid subscription service that purports to both track and report on TMA Member memberships in an electronic manner, rather than dealing with manual methods. it will also allow for TMA sponsorships.
we made this software transition so that ALL of our TMA would be easier to to maintain, easier to update, and allow both "behind the scenes" and visible functionality we didn't have before. if we can administer the forum better, the better for the forum users. we couldn't do any of that with our old software. it was time for a change, whether anyone - including us - liked it or not.
so yeah, stuff happened you wouldn't understand, but the main thing is, guess what? you don't need to know any of that stuff, nor struggle with it. you just get to use the forum! isn't that a good thing? or is yer glass still half empty? 8)
-
Sure Rob, it's a good thing. No problems there. :applaud
And yes, the glass is half empty, because I already drank the top half, and the bottom half is starting to go away as well. That's what happens when you set a glass of Jameson's in front of me, doncha know? :toast
Keep on keeping on, because I have no idea what to do if/when it breaks. Nor do I want to know. :bow
John
-
no problem, john - one way or t'other we got yer back. :bl th up :shake .... mmmm, hey it's time for a few palm ales. :toast :applaud
-
Not sure what a palm ale is, but remember, wherever you go, whatever time it is, it's always 5:00 o'clock somewhere.
And it's starting to get pretty close to then now. Time for my sweetie and I to sit down for a light libation out on the patio. I'm thinking of about 4 oz of good brandy and a couple of ice cubes will be just about right. And a small plate of sharp cheddar cheese and Ritz crackers to nibble on while the BBQ is warming up. A delightful way to end a pretty good day. :toast :toast Salute !!! I really don't like a lot of things about California, but the weather here is pretty good on the central coast.

Guess I made it too! Had alot of problems getting her with my phone and had to rant about it. But I'm here. BH :Doh!

"smart" phones, tablets, ipads, etc. - these mobile devices employ computer hardware and software that, due to their diminutive sizes, are not the same as found in "real" computers (desktops, laptops, notebooks). the biggest problem is their web browser applications that just don't work the same as "real" computer web browsers. usually, but not always, the device manufacturer can help. :Doh!
i have 6 computers, but i won't have a smart, er, dumb phone - i still use a flip top phone. 8)

I think I'm here....please don't lose me again.
-
Present and accounted for, but I need to spend more time figuring the place out...
-
Well thanks to Riley I got on ..... could not remember what my old email and password was and could not
find where I wrote it down ..... CRS real bad now y'know :o
So anyway he set me up with a temporary password and I cannot find on my profile or anywhere else here (yet)
how to update/change that. After I do I will be sure to write all that down until the next time things change and
I can't remember again :Doh! So where do I go ??? Thx
As was said several times above this new format will take some getting used to. It is similar to a couple other
sites I visit now and then so must be kind of a common webpage design.
-
john, just click on yer profile and modify it as you like.
-
I dunno. It feels a little like the times I've slipped through holes in the space/time continuum. It's kinda the same, yet nothing is. And BTW, a couple-three months back I sent a membership renewal bank draft thingie through the Postal Service, but haven't heard anything. Maybe my membership is back on the other side of the space warp. This might get figured out if there's anyone about who has mastered making the passage at will. I'll be waiting over here...
-
Kermit,
We (your TMA officers and Board of Directors) had a serious problem with getting members both renewed and signed on during the TMA Treasury transition that took place the end of February this year and the beginning of March. More than a few renewals and new sign-ups got seriously delayed and we apologize for that egregious mishandling of our members. We now have member updates, and our treasury, under full control and we thank you for your patience.
Your check #1793 finally arrived to me on March 21st when I updated your registration and your forum profile. As you can see on any of your posts, you are listed as a TMA Member.
I've added your membership service date to your profile.
Part of the big problem with the old forum was missing data for both Forum Guests and TMA Members - the old forum and member registrations didn't ask for, nor save within the forum, pertinent unique Guest or Member data. That will not be a problem moving forward with the new forum, but will always be an issue with those signed on before the transition to the new forum.
We ask both Forum Guests and TMA Members to review their forum profile and update it if need be, so we can better serve you.
If I can be of any help or service to you now or in the future, please PM or email me directly. You will receive an immediate response.
Thanx,
Rob.

Hmmmmmm, was I asleep when this transition took place? What happened?
For that matter, who are the officers and directors now? I think I have lost complete knowledge of that anymore.
Inquiring minds need to know, y'know?
Thanks Rob, as a personal aside, I think you have been doing above and beyond on this transition thing to this new forum format. Good job.

John,...you can say that again, Rob has went "above and beyond" to set the TMA up with this new software. :hairy :bow

Well I finally made it here! Is there a mobile interface?
welcome back, ramon! :bl th up
are you having mobile phone issues with this current SMF theme? if you know of an SMF mobile theme you'd prefer, please let me know and i'll look to getting it installed as a user selected option.
-
With the previous interface, when you went to the site it would automatically show a mobile / phone interface - simple fonts, text or etc. Alternately accessing site through "Tapatalk" would be great! ModernMuzzleloader is there :)
-
i just installed the smf_taptalk app to this forum ... please lemme know if it's working for you!
-
Thanks, I don't see it yet on the Tapatalk app, I will check a gain in a couple tonight.

Shows up when I go to forum but will not load due to error... If it's not snowing easy fix no worries

i gotta admit that i know squat about taptalk and i have no way of testing it since i don't have nor want a "smartphone".
below are the basic taptalk settings during the install in this forum, maybe you see something that needs tweaking?
