I was just wondering what everyone might be doing ML-wise this winter. Since I have a couple of barrels and 2 sticks of maple laying around, I'm thinking to build a Bucks county longrifle. My way of getting through winters that I don't enjoy much anymore. Happy Thanksgiving.

I am doing upgrades on my old CVA mountain rifle that I gave to my son. New L&R lock, refinishing the metal etc. The original lock was giving us trouble.
I also have a Hawken being built for me.

Happy Thanksgiving, Hank!
I'll probably make some possible bags to try and sell at Rendezvous in July (among other little projects ML related)... I need to alter (once again) some of my Rondy duds... :laffing
That sounds like a fun project you'll have going on. Post us up some pictures as you go if you don't mind. :shake
You too, Prairie Dog! :hairy

I'm still waiting on a barrel from FCI (Charles Burton) for a project I started back in January.
Meanwhile,.... I'm experimenting with making some molds for casting pewter fur trade medallions. :)

Darn Hank...I don't know what to say...Thank you, Thank you..(BTW, if ya don't mind, I'd like about a 1/4 inch cast off and about 13 1/2 inch LOP)
Thanks again...I knew ol Russ was wrong about you. :shake :applaud

I am planning to hit as many of the primitive biathlons held in the Northeast area, weather permitting. Winter is my favorite time of the year. I know, it sounds crazy, but I love snow shoeing in the snow on a quiet winter day.

That sounds like a great idea and some good fun to be had, Fyrstyk... :hairy
If you get a chance, post us some pictures of these events. I've always thought they looked really fun to do.

I do like winter as well my back feels better in the cold.
I always look forward to the trade fair in New Ulm MN
Riley normally has a wonderful TMA booth set up there and always good to see him.
We have the Nebraska muzzleloader convention in Kearney NE that’s always nice to go to
It seems Kearney is in the banana belt of the Midwest with temps normally 20 degrees or so warmer than here
Than we have the primitive biathlon that Riley also puts on near Rochester MN
Looking forward to climbing out of the tractor and trying to work over a long rifle of my late father in law.
The humidity was a killer up her this year and I’ve fought rust on everything.
Plus it’s nice to become active on here once again

Jake, when get a minute, tell us about this long rifle from your late father-in-law that you're going to be working on.
Good to see ya active on the forum again!

I've been planning for months now, to add a patchbox to my Hodgepodge rifle. I have the materials, just need to do it. Also have an old CVA kit in the shop which needs to be put together but that's been laying up in the rafters so long, it may never get built (by me, anyway).
And, I started on a wood & canvas canoe last Summer, got the frame together and now it's hanging from the rafters also... Need heat in the shop....

Hey Russ glad to back at the campfire
Gord had a real basic CVA 45 cal that he scrounged around and put a patch box on and some inlay.
Looks like he made the sheet copper out of copper pipe he hammered flat.
It has Phillips head screws on it that I would like to replace with flat heads.
He also loved to keep it in the white but it was no problem where he was zero humidity
I don’t think I’m a real good caretaker of it it has picked up some light rust along the way in safe and must not have been cleaned real well last it was shot I see rust near the lock.
We traded some locks for it before he passed
I’m pretty sure I got the better end of the deal. He always knew I like that full stock look and feel.
Not even sure where those locks went I never saw them again. Hopefully someone on here ended up with them
He always talked of a younger guy on here he traded a crank forge blower to.
Sorry to reminisce and long winded
Hope everyone has a great holiday season

Good story Jake.
You have a little treasure in your hands, at least IMHO. Please take good care of it.
I have wished no less than dozens of times that Gordy would have listen to me during his last few years.
I later realized he preferred to think of himself as a young man, still able to run a Ranch all on his own.
But he wanted that Ranch more'n anything else in this world, so listening to somebody else was just out of the question.
I still have a picture in the shop of Gordy and his red Mare....beautiful memories, indeed
"Just gettin by" was a life style for old Gordy, and you had to appreciate the simplicity with which he did this.
I sure do miss that man!
RIP Gordy.
Your old friend, Russ...
