I've been going over to that site on a fairly regular basis, became a member sometime back but they don't even have a forum for Hunting. It's basically a 'builders site' for making rifles. Just judging from the years I've put on, even though I'm still in pretty good physical shape I don't think I HAVE ENOUGH TIME to get involved in building ML rifles! I'd rather shoot...than build! So just a few minutes ago I move the LongRifles site icon to the trash and the only one I have on my desktop now is this site! Think it's gonna be much better! :yessir: :toast

We try to provide a site that entertains a host of interests when it comes to the great sport of traditional muzzleloading, and things related to it. :toast :shake :applaud :*: :)

We're all glad you enjoy the TMA, Hawken :shake
I haven't been over to the ALR site for some time now. You're right, they are mostly builders over there - and that's okay as I think they always have been a builders site first.
In the past, a few of us have tried to have some shooting contests through the ALR forum, but usually it was just a very small handful that would even take part and it would fizzle out quick. Though the 200 yard match we had years ago (I'm sure Maven remembers that) we did get a pretty good turn out for it - but then no one (except Maven and I) really wanted to do it again... Must of wore some of 'em out?? :laffing
As you say, they are a builders site and they are very good at what they do - no doubt about that.

Don't really know much about the other site...but what I know for certain is that the TMA site is truly one of the best out there that I've come across. I have about a half dozen other ML sites bookmarked, but none of them offer the consistency and value I have found here.
All of them have one niche or another (such as "18th Century Civilians") but TMA really is an open forum that has something for everyone. It covers every possible aspect of our hobby.
So, my (unasked for) advice is to keep up the good work, and don't change a danged thing...we're knocking it outta of the park. :hairy :hairy :hairy

I only have two ML sites bookmarked This one and the ALR. I've been going to both daily for what seems forever. Learned a lot from both.

The ALR site is an excellent site for people that want to study and learn about the history of the American long rifle. There are also forums on shooting, accoutrements & collecting old & new guns. Most of it's members are really passionate about them old guns which makes it not for everyone, I reckon.

Yes sir....and I fully recognize that fact :bow and I guess I didn't 'square away' my thinking :Doh! enough when I posted that I had left that site because I haven't...not totally! On occasion I go back for the historical events that I can find and for whatever information I can run across that might be related to my hunting interest! And for anyone or group of individuals that have the intestinal fortitude to maintain ANY SITE that promotes our historical bearing.....I espouse my gratitude!! Mea Culpa Mea Culpa Mea Culpa! :yessir:

Hawken, you mentioned one thing, actually several, that I am in total agreement with.
The one that stands out most is, "I would much prefer shootin muzzleloaders to building them".
This is not to take away anything from the ALR site, I've been a member there for far too long to do that. And to say I haven't learned anything from those guys would be flat-out wrong.
Still yet, at our age, that thing about shootin certainly has its plus side......Jus'sayin

Like what Uncle Russ & Hawken have said 'bout shootin more than building... I am afeared I am one of the most "unhandy" folks to ever shoulder a long rifle. I do luv shootin 'em...but if I had to build one first...well a slingshot would probably become my weapon of choice...just saying... :laffing :laffing :laffing
My hat is off to all you fellars that have the skills and patience to make all them purty guns and rifles! Please don't stop! Make you all a promise...you keep building 'em...and I will keep buying 'em! :shake
