Title: Photo Question
Post by: Spotted Bull on September 13, 2019, 07:19:53 PM
Im currently without a computer, having only a tablet and a smart phone. I can't seem to get photos to work on my posts from those devices. Is there a "smart feller" that can help me out?

Would love to have some help getting them smaller...

Are you trying to post photos using the "Insert Image" button or are trying to post them as attachments? If you use the "Insert Image" button then the photos have to be hosted somewhere and you will need to insert the link to that photo. I use https://imgur.com/ (https://imgur.com/) to host all my photos but there are many other free services to choose from. Photobucket used to be a really popular photo hosting service but it is complete junk now.

If you are trying to post photos as an attachment, 1) you will need to know where those photos are saved on your phone or tablet and 2) you will need to know how to navigate to them. There are several free apps you can install that can help you with both of these tasks. Just do a search in your app store and look for "photo manager".

To reduce the size of your photo, you will need to use a piece of photo editing software like MS Paint, MS Paint 3D, or MS Office Picture Manager. A lot of forums will not let you post a photo that is any larger than 640 pixels by 480 pixels so that is the size you need to shoot for. To reduce the photo size, look for anything that says "Resize" in the photo editing program you are using. If you still can't figure it out you can always ask Lord Google for help. You will probably find not less than two dozen videos on YouTube to show you what to do with your particular piece of software.

I hope this helps!

When you have photo on your phone for viewing....normally there is an icon at the bottom of photo that will let you dredge up a Link to the photo! Copy the Link....and put it onto your posting and the photo should be viewable!!

Just didn't want to use a hosting site. Nothing else works though. Oh well.

there is absolutely nothing bad or wrong with using an image hosting service such as www.imgur.com - billions of images and vids are hosted there.  think about it this way - if you post an image on the web using *ANY* method, it's there for the world to see and USE.  so there are NO risks in using an online image hosting service, unless you post an image that you don't want the word to see.  i have many hundreds of images up at imgur.com and will have hundreds more to come

the problem with uploading large images as post attachments is two fold.

1 - image file sizes can be no larger than 500k (1/2 meg).  we impose that maximum size because the TMA pays for image server space.

2 - all uploaded attachments are an interaction between your browser and our server.  the connection between both browser and server, and the size of the file to be uploaded have a direct relationship and large files *may* cause your browser to time out.  this is a common problem with large file post attachments.

SO, use the totally FREE www.imgur.com service to host all your posted images and all will be just fine.
