Title: Better late than never
Post by: No Powder on November 24, 2023, 12:42:02 PM
Is anyone else patiently waiting for their Nov., Dec. issue of Muzzleloader magazine?

Actually, no I am not.
My subscription expired many years ago, and I was not impressed enough with it to renew.
Same goes for Muzzleblasts.

I understand. The last time I renewed, there was a price increase in effect.  But I was able to get it at the old price. Might have to reconsider when it comes time to renew.

I wrote an email to muzzleloader about that.
Haven't heard back in a week.
It's been late several times recently .

With the paper shortage and consequent higher prices, a lot of the magazines are going on-line only.  Unfortunately that seems to be the niche publications catering to a small group.  I have a hard time reading long articles on the confuser and would much rather have a paper copy in hand.  Plus, several studies have shown that retention is greater when a person has to physically handle and turn pages.  I can save the print copies in a box for later reference while trying to find the appropriate one on line doesn't work well for me!  I wouldn't be surprised to see Muzzleloader drop the paper copy option and that we will only be able to access it via the Internet.

At the same time, I agree with Bigsmoke.  I did not renew my first subscription (30 years ago) for the same reasons.  I only re-upped last year and am not planning to renew when that runs out.

Has anyone received the current issue yet.
 This is ridiculous.

Has anyone called them up yet to find out what the problem is?
I would imagine the phone number is listed somewhere in the magazine.
Just saying.

I still haven't received mine yet. I thought someone said Muzzle Blast was late too. I don't get the latter, so I can't verify that.

If I recall, I believed this has happened other times (years back), and I "think" it had something to do with their printers who put the final product / Magazine together??? Don't quote me on that,,, but this has happened before.

I no longer have a dog in the fight (when it comes to being a subscriber) as there comes a point in one's life - where things like (Magazine Subscriptions) become repetitive material with different players (so to speak). However, (like back in the "old" days - if I saw a copy in the Magazine Rack - I'd latch onto it). I have no idea at all if they even go the "Magazine Rack" route anymore?

With this said, it's still one of the very best publications out there IMHO.  :shake

You're right Joe. I think our local Tractor  Supply  still has it on their book & magazine rack. When my subscription runs out,  I'll just look there for it. Now that brings up a question. How many issues of  Buckskin ner magazine were available to TMA members. I am only aware of two. But I think there were a few more?

I have Volume 1 Numbers 1 through 5. Best magazine ever produced in my opinion.  Hated that things went south that quickly. A sorry state of affairs.

I only have Volume 1, numbers 4 & 5. For some reason I didn't get all of them.

But where are they now?  I have no idea. ;banghead; ;banghead;

I just found them again in the bottom of a file cabinet when moving, think I have all 5, will have to look tomorrow if I remember, maybe I'll go write it down, then hopefully I will remember to look at my note pad sometime within the next month!  :Doh!

I know I have some issues, but I'm not real sure how many?

Well not to keep beating a dead horse here but I haven't seen a magazine yet.
I again emailed them about a week ago now with no response.
Today I received a letter from Muzzleloader advising me that my subscription is due for renewal next month , " don't miss an issue" .
nothing about printing delays or anything.
Said to say I will not renew , not for these recent problems, just because I can get all this info free on the interweb and why spend the money on magazines when it can go to black powder and stuff.  I have 5# of new production GOEX coming.  :hairy

I think the future of Muzzleloader Magazine is looking pretty dismal at this particular time. I still haven't received my latest issue yet. According to the info you received, they don't even recognize that there is a problem.

I sent an inquiry to Muzzleloader asking where the current issue is, and received the following reply a little while ago:

Kees,
Unfortunately there was a delay with the Nov/Dec issue (my fault) but it is at the printers now and I am expecting it to be mailed soon. I apologize for the delay.
Thank you,
Jason W. Gatliff
MUZZLELOADER MAGAZINE

So there you have it.  My Muzzle Blasts came on time so you may have to contact them or your mailman, Kevin.

maybe I will check with my mail lady. Not really sure I care tho.
A friend of mine signed me up with NMLRA and so far i have received the Sept issue twice and the Oct issue. plus two thank you for joining letters only one had a sticker..   seems to me the problems with these magazines/organizations go deeper than just the printer.

The last time I subscribed to Muzzle Blasts was several years ago.  They had a promotion/fund raiser going where if you subscribed for a year and paid them a cool grand, you got a copy of David Wright painting "The Spirit of America".
I did and I eventually got a letter saying there was a production delay on David Wright's end.
Yeah, sure there is.  You betcha.
So, after a month long wait or so, I called up David Wright for a little chat.  Supposedly, there was a problem with his storage facility and all the ones on hand were damaged or some such stuff.  In the meantime, I am paying NMLRA a hundred clams a month, but no painting.
Time passes.
Eventually, I got the print in the mail along with a nice little velvet sack about 2"x2" with a very nice NMLRA pin in it.
And so, the rest of the story:  During the time when the print eventually was delivered, my mom, the really accomplished artist, was over for a visit.  Nice painting, she says.  Do you like it?  I sure do, I said.  And she says, wonderful, let's go pick out a frame for it.
So later that week, we were in San Luis Obispo for some reason or another, and we had taken the print along with us.  We went to an art supply shop that did framing and looked around until we decided on one.  When I looked at the work order, I saw it totaled out at $600.00 and change.  I was aghast.  She said not to worry, she would do the down payment.  Gee, thanks, mom.  I appreciate the help.  Only $500+ to go.
So, I paid off the painting and I paid off the framing and that is the last I ever had to do with Muzzle Blasts.
For some reason, I could never get excited about Muzzle Loader magazine.  Probably been 20 years or so since I had a subscription for that one.  As far as American Rifleman goes, I became a life member somewhere around 1985 or so.  That went along OK until about about 2008.  Then they just stopped sending me the magazine, which didn't bother me much.  I just wish they would stop sending me fundraising letters.   I did like Muzzle Loading Hunter but when Basil Bradburry died, the magazine died along with him.
Bottom line is I am not getting anything in the mail and I like it just fine that way.  I am tired of empty promises and printing delays and all the other assorted BS they spray out there.  I really do not have time to read their junk.  I have enough else to take care of.

John, if I would have gone through what you did , I'm sure I'd certainly feel the same way you do. But if Darren were to start publishing a black powder hunting magazine , you can bet I'd subscribe to it and drop all my other subscriptions. I think it would be a good one.

Suggest you call the NMLRA and ask them directly what happened.  Maybe your membership wasn't renewed?

I'm a new member,  a friend signed me up ,not too worried but I didn't get November issue, just September n December .
I'm blaming USPS. ,  they have a package I sent to NY Dec 1st.  Still sitting in NJ.
Maybe rob can pick it up for me and run it to buffalo.
Getting these magazines is nice but it just keeps me on the couch instead out in my shop where I should be.

The old catalogs were pretty good, but the new glossy page ones are too slick.
