Man I'm have trouble finding 3/4" french ambers.
Ordered 5/8" from heritage products and was just told they are also out of stock.
I can order a grand total of 1 flint from kibler. Not happening.
All the others suppliers are as much at 12-14$ for 2 FA flints.
Man what the hell is going on.
I see folks knapping there own but a flint rock ain't cheap either .
I may have to build a matchlock . ;banghead; Until rope is unavailable
Done crying .

Have you tried Tony Roberts at Mountain Top Trading? I bought a few from him last year and it is amazing how much fire is stored in them. But I wasn't too impressed with his English flints. I might have gotten a couple of sparks out of each trigger pull. He is in Washington.
My next place to look would be The Gun Works in Springfield, OR.

Looked last night, Didn't see any flints listed, I was thinking a run over to Colfax might be fun.
I guess I could call
I probably have 18-20 amber and English flints on hand just trying to stockpile more in case they disappear.
I may try knapping my own but that's a whole nuther thing.

Did you try Stonewall Creek Outfitters? It's worth a shot. I know I was disappointed in what I found at Ft. Frederick. I bought 3 French amber, 3/4" flints from one individual for $9.00+tax. I've seen better looking shale than most of the flints I looked at. That was on Friday, and it started Thurs. so I was probably a day late. ;banghead;

Was 12 the limit on how many you could buy?

No limit that I saw. Already shipped too.

Was that price before or after shipping. Irregardless it sounds like a fair price. I saw a place in Frederick that wanted $4.00 per flint. :Doh!

Before shipping. If I wasn't a dumb ass I would have grabbed some with a recent order from TOTW for some parts and not paid shipping twice, duh :stooges:
Anyways I'm set on flints now for a bit.

Kev, there is a couple in Southern Idaho that deals in flints, I think they're somewhere around Lewiston, I think! I bought 3 dozen rocks from them at the ML show in Enumclaw at 2 bux a piece, they carry black and amber rocks I will try to get their contact info for you.

Right on, that would be appreciated

I'm not a "stoner" like you guys, but a couple years ago, when I was breaking in my flintlock, I read somewhere that there are several types of natural stone that can be used if flint isn't available. While I don't recall what those were, an online search ought to turn it up. Also I bought and tried some man made rock substitute that looked much like a machined piece of a carborundum stone. It worked just as well as everything else I tried plus the padded jaws of the cock held it securely. Guys, stop napping and get to knapping! :laffing
