well, now that I have your attention...
I'm SURE this has never happened to you... but if a friend of yours accidentally managed to double load - as in: powder. patch. ball. duuuhhhh. powder. patch. ball. what would you do - I mean what would you tell your friend to do?
cap and blast or pull ?
I have a VERY close friend who has done this more than once and she has had a slightly sore shoulder afterward, but worries that her barrel might not make it through a 3rd time. your thoughts gentlemen?

PULL!PULL!PULL!PULL!PULL!PULL!
Firing off a double load like that could be very bad JuJu.

wow that's a tough one... I know what I should tell you and also what I would probably do. Given the safety side i have to say pull it. If it was just a second ball i would shoot it out but with powder too that adds a bunch of extra weight, like 2.5 x the single ball load. Just not worth the risk.
-
Jusr went through this last weekend with ahem... Puffer! Pulled the second ball and wormed the patch, reseated the first load and touched it off. No need to pull the first load down the tube!
-
the key there is to 'RESEAT' or could be a disaster.
-
CO2 discharge should work too.
-
What Sneakon said! I bought one of the Co2 dischargers just for that reason. I do believe that this thing will clear a barrel of anything short of being welded in there. I bought it for our club, and to carry at rendezvous to help anyone out if they need a bore clearing. This thing works great! It's a lot safer as well! For $30, it's cheap insurance.
-
Agree - see if you can blow it out with CO2 first.

I tried to blow a double with CO2 and it stayed stuck!
Had to use some Moose Juice and pull the first - then the CO2 worked on the second (first in )ball
Hey Beav, ya shoulda had Puffer harness some of that wind and tried blowing his double out.
Puffer, remember from the Good, the Bad and the Ugly where the Ugly guys says from the bath tub - "Shoot don't talk!"
Works on the range too!!
-
Pull or try the CO2. I would try the CO2 first. You should get a ball puller and a patch worm and a bore scraper. If you get the load that is on top completely out, then you could reseat the first load and shoot.
Shooting both loads out could be BAD JU JU indeed!
-
Not be blunt, but your friend should probably pay better attention. I dont mean that in a negative way, because stuff like this does happen on occasion, but if it has happened to one person more than once, then a little less BS and more paying attention to loading.
Down at our range if our rifles are loaded we leave the RR in them, if we break for rules discussion, or instructions on the next target, etc. that way there is no guessing. I have my range rod marked at un loaded, and also loaded with different powder charges, I can drop it in and tell at a glance what state my rifle is in.
But I would pull the last load down the barel, and shoot out the first, no sense wasting both.
-
Ahh, ha. I've already been called out. Yep you fellers are right; more shootin less talkin. Absolutely true. No excuses. None.
I do have a puller, worm and scraper but I don't have CO2, probably a good investment. I have marked my ramrod for loaded and unloaded. I like the idea of keeping the rod down the barrel until ready to step to the firing line, makes good sense and "my friend" has only shot one rod down the range and that was a loooong time ago. :shake
cheers mates

I do take my shooting seriously. I can also dish out as good as I get when it comes to trash talk. I'm out to have fun......
Yup, just what we need to spice up the monthly postal matches.
Welcome LOW.
-
Hey LOW, why not partner up with your friend and try out our Mink Fink shoot this May?
-
There are a couple of other ways to clear that mess, get a zerk fitting that fits the thread of the nipple [auto parts store]then use a grease gun to push the obstruction out. After you have cleaned up the gun you will not likely repeat the double load or get an air fitting that fits the nipple thead and use compressed air to push the load out, point the barrel away in a safe direction the co2 or the air will push the load out with cosiderable force. In any case if you use a worm keep your body away from the front of the barrel after you have the ball solidly fixed on the worm, tie the ramrod to a solid post and pull on the stock end.

Lady of the woods, We are from a "quiet" range, and we also dont allow spotting scopes, actually both clubs I belong to dont allow spotting scopes. In my years of BP shooting, well any shooting, I have developed habits. I usually just take the abuse, then when the ball is rammed home, I dish it out. Sean

Soak it good... then pull both loads why cuzz I had a shooter load three one time ... ata meat shoot years ago... I let him step up to the firing line before I called him back...ta make a point "how close he came" two may go down range three kin go everywhere.
I know a fella we call "one-hand" for a that reason.
Mark her RAMROD !!! Glad ya got yours done ... Lets ya know what be down the bore.

Blunt talk is important in life. This PC BS is what causes accidents. Safety is blunt. Either speak to the issue or suffer the loss of your hand, your eyes, or your life, or someone elses.
The line is for Shooting. If you want to talk trash, then rack your gun and go set in the shade and talk. Its that simple.
-
oh my, thank you for that. I'll keep it in mind kind sir.

Id rather have your feathers ruffled for a couple minits than to hear that you were hurt for some reason. Your feathers will heal, but havin you loose a hand or your eyes or who knows wouldnt ever heal. We want to keep you around.
-
no ruffled feathers here : ) I prefer ta keep all my parts n pieces too. here's to ya.
